Garry Pearce began playing for Yeoman in 1974. In the 45 seasons since, he has served the Club with dedication in a number of roles. His game tally amounted to well over 400. His last game came in 1994, when he managed a couple of quarters at Queenstown.
Add the number of games Garry has umpired – over 300, including Yeoman Reserves, Under 17s and school matches – and the total is much more than he himself cares to add up.
Garry played in the Reserves Premiership of 1978 and in 1992 was Reserves Premiership Captain. He coached the Reserves in 1994 and to another flag in 1995. He won the Harrison Medal for Reserves Best and Fairest three times – 1974, 1980 and 1987.
When the DFA took over the umpiring of its Reserves matches in 1996, Garry was part of the original intake. He has now officially retired from umpiring, but has remained ready, willing and able to step into the breach if required.
He has been an active member of the Committee for dozens of years, serving in various capacities. He is a member of the Platinum Club which has been working for years to support Yeoman financially through such activities as woodchopping.
Garry has seen the highs and lows of the Club, from the premierships to the near collapse about ten years ago and has been steadfast throughout.
Garry Pearce has well and truly qualified for election as a Yeoman Legend of Loyalty.
Garry Pearce passed away on the 18th May, 2020 at the age of 67. Vale Garry and thank you for your immense contribution to the Yeoman Football Club.
