Ron had a distinguished career with Wynyard Football Club and followed son Peter in his Under 19 days with the Cats. When Peter joined his brothers, Russell and Tom, at Yeoman in 1974, Ron came along too. And he’s been here ever since.
Ron joined the Committee in the 1970s and was part of the off-field teams that guided the Club to premierships in 1978 and 1993.
Ron is not one to make a noise so most would not know of him as a considerable benefactor to the finances of the Club.
Hardly a Yeoman game has gone by for decades that Ron has not attended. And that pattern has continued through the DFA Finals regardless of the combatants. He used to go to Queenstown, too, but that’s the only place you’re not likely to see him now.
Since 2012, Ron has shared the honoured position of Patron with George Mason – an indication of the high regard in which the patriarch of a family vital to the Club is held.
In the 44th season of his dedication to the Yeoman Football Club, Ron Wynwood deserves to be an inaugural inductee to the Yeoman Football Club Legends of Loyalty.
