TRIUMPHANT YEOMAN OVERRUNS YOLLA
In a tough, no-holds-barred Grand Final, Yeoman ran over Yolla in the last half to take out the DFA premiership by 39 points before a record crowd at West Park.
The Demons won the toss and kicked to the Cooee end in windy, showery conditions.
Yeoman jumped away with quick goals to Jason Payne and Brett Challis, then the Demons, through Steve Edwards with three goals and Wayne Symes with one, moved out to a 16 point lead at quarter time.
Yolla took up where they left off with ruckman Matthew Wooldridge dominating and small men in Kristian Bracken, Dion Ebdon and ruck-rover Scott Walker gaining many possessions and with Mark Ellis snapping a goal early in the second term, the Demons took a 22 point lead.
However, Yeoman's Andrew Lucas was then brought into the game and produced immediate results teaming with Simon Plapp, Brett Challis and Nathan Wescombe to score quick goals to push Yeoman within six points at half time.
Yeoman came out firing after the break with ruckman Tom Hagley taking control, Scott Bloom, Lucas, Plapp and Jason Payne all dominating the packs while their backline in Wes Blachford, Anthony Walker, Damien Pyle and Luke O'Garey shut Yolla out of the game to keep the Demons scoreless for the last half.
The last term saw the Robins pull away to a well deserved win.
Yolla put up a tremendous fight, although beaten, they can hold their heads high in their efforts they put in from the Elimination Final onwards.
