Pines Club Notes. Round 4.
Bonbeach v Pines. 14 May 2011.
Seniors recorded our only victory last week in a top shelf win over Seaford who topped and tailed all day until we broke clear in the last term. Jamie Messina received the B.O.G trophy, well shown in his puncturing of the defence with 3 goals. Shaun White added 3 to his 7 kicked v E-A and is tipped to kick a ton this year. Emphasized during 3RPP’s broadcast was our need for more Thirds players, well done to all concerned. Today we’re at Possum Land for our 59th meet with Bonbeach since 1964 and as your scorecard will show we have won 36 of those games. Let’s add another one today and with every win we have over the Beachers, it’s a payback for when they beat us by 1 pt in the 1982 Grand Final. Guess who kicked the winning goal for them on that day, none other than current BB coach Dale ‘Possum’ Carpenter, that means double payback time. Dale did however coach Pines to a senior flag in 1988 and his brother Leigh did likewise in 1994, the only bros in league history to have ever coached senior prem teams. Went along to watch my grandson play at Pines juniors and found my son Sean wearing a bright yellow vest with the words Ground Marshall. “What’s this” says I. “I get to tell any loudmouths to shut up and to tell anyone with a loutish attitude to behave themselves” says he. “How many did you have to speak to” says I. “None from Pines” says he. Each team from each club has such an official. Our senior club policy is that we will not tolerate any rotten behavior at our games and those that disobey will be asked to leave the ground. Don’t be an Abuse Goose. Word is that when we play YCW in Rd 6, both teams will be wearing their original style jerseys. It will be great to see our old colours again and won’t YCW look cute in their yellow and black hoops fondly remembered by our veterans as the Bumblebee style.
