PINES CLUB NOTES. Round 3. Pines v Chelsea. 26 April 2014
Today we honour Anzac Day, remembering those who served, fought and gave their lives that we may live to be as free as we are. Lest we forget. As part of our 50 year celebrations, this column will try to bring to you some snippets from our past, some quizzes and maybe some classic anecdotes. Here’s a quick quiz- ‘Who was the only senior team that Pines were never able to beat?’ Last round; the band of Pines Past Players who gathered for the first of this year’s functions could only watch (of course) as our Seniors just couldn’t get the better of the Langaroos. There were at times only the matter of a few points difference in the scores but the final siren blew a 32 pt dearth. Best- Guy Hendry (3gls), A.Ludewig, J.Messina. Reserves, 7 goals down at qtr time and with six of the selected team altered or outed, then matched the Roos goal for goal but fell to a 51 pt loss. Best-J.Prosser (2gls), Gord Hendry, D.Scerri. Good to see our Thirds team basically unchanged from the week before. Shows that the lads are sticking together. Not a good game result for them though. Best- B.Burt, N.Lineham, D.Ryan. Welcome today to Chelsea, one of our hardest opponents over the years. Many players have worn the colours of both clubs but did you know that the first known of these can be traced back to 1967. Although a long serving and famous name at Chelsea, he played 34 snr gms in 2 years at Pines. He lived for a time on our Pines Estate. Who was he? And it’s not Possum. The Last Bud.
