PINES CLUB NOTES. Round 11. Langwarrin v Pines. 28 June 2014
At the beginning of this season he was deemed as not being included in the starting twenty for our Reserves team. He was not included in the team for the first game and at best he may have been ‘riding the timbers’. As fate has it there was some late team changes so not only did he now get selected, but he was seen as our team’s second best player on that day. He has followed on from that game with three BOG’s, another three second bests and a couple of third bests. Some say that he was cool about that round one business but your scribe reckons he was out to do a bit of ‘watch me now’. This column sees him as having one of his best seasons for a while and with club game 475 coming up soon, in his 29th season, we once again say-“Well done Gordo”. Another evergreen warhorse out there in our reserves last week was our senior coach Steve Ryan who was not only BOG but kicked 7gls and steered the team to a 22pt win. Best; Steve Ryan, Gordon Hendry and Jean Bezzene. Our last player to kick 7 or more reserves goals was Rick Ramsdale with 7 in Rd 11, 2011. Seniors lumbered badly in the first half as the flighty gulls raced to a 25pt main break margin. Slowly and steadily came our goals though and even with our 7gl third qtr it was neck and neck all the way until in a last minute cruncher Jamie Messina steered a 50m captain’s goal through to give us a 9pt win. Best; Beau Hendry, Jamie Messina (3gls) and Shaun White. Guy Hendry added another 4 to his goals tally. Thirds have had worse days and once again they gave of their best. Best; Team Effort. Next Sat there will be another Legend Luncheon and also a double reunion of our 1994 Prem teams and as this is going to be a split round and we are the only game in town it will be a big day. 1994 reunion chaps are asked to contact Hussy or Paddy. Good to see V.Pres Terry Spalding is on the improve after his nasty mishap. In an exclusive statement to this column he quipped- “I can’t wait to get back to the rooms to see all my friends”. The Last Bud.
