Round 8. Pines v Karingal 18 June 2011
Top win by our Seniors v Morn last Sat strengthens our finals chances but we still have yet to defeat teams higher on the ladder so don’t get too comfortable. Mike Curcio, although taped up like an Egyptian mummy bagged 7 and Shaun White and Jamie Messina were both nifty adding 4 each. No scoreboard honours for our Thirds but the honour for this handful of lads is that they are sticking together against all odds and are proudly giving their best. Thanks to those Morn pups who helped fill our team. Daniel Falzon got to play his first snr game and becomes our 519th snr team player since 1964. Once again we are the host club and we welcome Karingal for our 53rd meet since 1969 of which we have won 32 and 1 draw. This will be the 900th game played by our senior teams since 1964 so let’s make it a good one. Our highest goalkicker v the Bulls was Craig McPherson when he set a one game snr club record of 21 kicked in Rd 2, 1983. Our netballers are making the most of it and I wonder how many remember the netball team that was on the Pines estate in earlier years. They operated during the 70’s and 80’s and were known as the Forest netball team but were not linked to the footy club. They wore a black and aqua uniform and played their home games at the now extinct high school. Supporters are reminded of the Thursday night meals available in our rooms where there is a great selection on our smorgasbord menu and where you can meet and have a chat with our coaches and players, get a photo with your ace player (to put under your pillow girls) and don’t forget your autograph book. The Dinner Dance river boat cruise on the Yarra is nearly booked out so see Beau. Neil tells me that Karen won’t be going, she doesn’t like being on the water. The last time that I was on the Yarra I was enjoying a bit of sculling. Burnsy’s burgers are great but they just need une petite touché de la crème de la jour. Bon chance Pythons.
