Pines Club Notes Round 2. Edi Asp v Pines. 30 April 2011.
Hard fought wins for our seniors and reserves last round v Mt Eliza makes for a good start to the season but it was a bad day for our thirds who only had 12 lads turn up to play. Thanks to the Mounties for loaning us the players to fill our team. Let’s hope that we aren’t heading down the same path as Karingal. Today we meet Edi Asp for their first home game this year and how are they feeling after collapsing to Chelsea three weeks ago. Our first ever game against E-A was in Rd 7 1984 and here is a snippet from the game report-“The Pythons have strengthened their position further as they made short work of Edithvale who tried hard with a respectable score but Pines had too many better players”. Pines best- K.Sutton, B.Blacher, A.Norris, M.Rowley, C.McPherson. Andrew ‘Jack’ Norris kicked 7 goals and in the reserves, Stephen Johnson booted 17. Oh, for those days again. Our highest ever senior one game goalkicker v E-A was Craig Neal with 11 in Rd 2, 1991. Then, how could we ever forget the Pines club record of reserves goals kicked in one game (22) by Stephen Nicholls in 1992 v E-A, and he probably come off for a smoke at times. Get ready for some beaut social functions coming up and we start tonight with a ‘Super Heroes and Villains Dress Up’. I wonder who sees themselves as what. Tragic situations in Japan at the moment as we all well know but it’s good to see that former Pines player Andy Peyton, who resides there, is fairing well. Andy coaches an Aussie rules team there known as the Tokyo Goannas, you may have seen the newspaper article a few weeks ago. He still holds the title at Pines as the player to have played the most reserves games (116) without ever playing a senior game. Good luck Tout. Don’t forget to follow our netball club notes and news in your footy record. Home games are held at the Monterey Secondary College, the old Tech School at 12 noon (B) and 1.15 pm (A).
