Hendry family affair for Pines
THERE was a unique achievement at Pines on Saturday when veteran ruckman Gordon Hendry played alongside his two sons, Beau and Guy.
It had been a long-held ambition of 41-year-old Gordon.
The Pythons celebrated the occasion with a 24-point win over Langwarrin.
"It was pretty good," Hendry said.
"I think for a change the kids were a bit more excited than the dad.
"How many people do you think have done it?
"I'm very proud, big time.
"There's only one more thing to go for me – my 400th game."
Gordon has played 392 games for Pines – 309 of them in the seniors.
On Saturday, Gordon rucked in five-minute bursts off the bench while Guy, 18, played at full-back and Beau, 22, at centre half back.
Gordon has made a $200 bet with his two boys that they won't play more games (combined) in Pines' seniors than him.
He has given the club amazing service.
"My first game in the firsts was 1988," he said.
"I got $50 for that game. How much do you reckon I got paid for yesterday's game? $50. It's like the prices of houses on the Pines, they just don't move."
Pines' all-the-way win over Langwarrin was inspired by gun young forward Shaun White who fired off eight goals (six before half-time). Fast making a name for himself, White has booted 13 goals in the past two games. He's also recently become a dad.
