PINES CLUB NOTES. Round 4. Mt Eliza v Pines. 3 May 2014
What a terrific effort by our seniors in defeating Chelsea last week as it has been a little dismal, like the match day weather, over the last few weeks and this is just the morale lifter and warmer that we need, yeah all round the place. The overheard in the crowd comment of –“no-one comes to the footy anymore” might improve too. Our team was relentless in attack and doubled the Gull’s goals to win by 45pts. Best; Jake Berry, Shaun White (3gls) and Lachlan Pizzey. Reserves game was odd in that after we kept Chelsea scoreless in the first term they did the same thing to us in the second. Scores then remained level for a qtr (I think) until the Gulls broke away to take home a 37pt win. Young Rhys Chalkley (son of Barrie) needed hospital attention for a nasty head injury. Hoping that he is ok as we go to print. Best; Jean Bezzene, Gordon Hendry and Dave McLaren. Our previously unaltered Thirds team this time sported a number of u.16 lads who helped the team produce it’s best effort this year. Best; Jordan Frawley, Joshua Howe-Moloney and Majok Puok. This column cannot bring you the long awaited news (again) that Simon Bishop will play his 175th club game today as he is injured (again). Maybe next week Bish (again). Will Casey was set to play his 200th club game today but alas, all the king’s horses and all the king’s men won’t get Will back out there today. The 50 year quizzes, quotes and anecdotes have been reduced due to lack of public interest. Today, if you look around you, you’ll find we are at Mt Eliza. Many people have it as a mindset that we first met the Mounties when we went into the then MPFL in 1984. Not so, Mt E. versed us in the old NFL but only for one year in the reserves (1966) and in the seniors and thirds in 1967. They then went into the then MPFL. They too seem to have forgotten this. Their home venue wasn’t where you are now so where was it? Nice to hear from Mick Hobgen recently. Mick started in u.12 and worked his way through to playing in our 1976 senior Prem team. Hope you enjoy England ‘Hobbo’. The Last Bud.
