Pines Club Notes. Round 3.
Pines v Seaford. 7 May 2011.
Bad day at E-A last round and thanks to E-A for loaning us Thirds players when once again we could only muster 12 lads. Today we welcome Seaford for our 42nd meet but we do need to improve on the scorecard tally of Seaford 21 wins, Pines 19, 1 draw. The low number of games is due to the fact that Seaford went to the North Division in 1997 and we did not meet again until 2005. Our very first game was in Rd 5, 1984. It was a Sunday game and the Tigers jawed us by 5 pts in what was described as one of the best games of footy that one could wish to see. Yes, the Sunday local derby games were always great days. Best players that day for us were- B.Blacher, J.Smith, W.Lang. ‘Jack’ Norris booted 7. Highest ever one game goalkicker v Seaford was P.Williams 12, Rd 14, 1995. Our highest ever score v the Tigers was 32.16-208 in 1994, now that would be nice to see again. Your last footy record showed 3 reserves goals credited to S.Bishop in Rd 1, this should have been 4 to Will Casey. League / club records have been rectified. Will has now kicked a total of 173 reserves goals, he kicked 10 v Seaford in Rd 7, 2005 and is currently sitting in fourth place on our list of most all time reserves goals. Often heard is the comment- “Didn’t so and so play for us before”? Good point for out of the ‘new players’ so far this year returnees are Matt Bayliss (2007), David Marguglio (2008-09), Gary Martin (2003-08), Daniel Falzon (2009 thrds) and Eddie Parsons (2007-08). There must be something about us that they like. Casually leaning empty handed against the beer booth, your scribe was informed by Terry the Treasurer that we are in need of more general helpers on home match days. If you can lend a hand see Terry. A bit hard though as the majority of Pines spectators at our last home game were Past Players and the local blue singlet gang.
