PINES CLUB NOTES. Round 8. Edi Asp v Pines. 7 June 2014
It has been a long hard road that we have travelled to get to do what we do tonight and that is to celebrate the 50 year existence of Pines Football Club (1964-13) now known as Pines Football Netball Club. The original name of the club was the Pines Forest Sports Association and this covered many sports all year round eg footy in winter, cricket in summer. A lot of work has been put in to make sure that tonight is a success and that the 337 who are attending can enjoy themselves without any upsets. A good cross section of people and players from our years will be gathering and it doesn’t take much to imagine the stories and yarns that will fill the room. Players from our very first game will be in attendance right on through to our current footballers and netballers of who will get to see images and highlights of our club from when we first struggled in our infancy through to marching on to and through our great years. Those not attending tonight may like to join in at our rooms tomorrow from 11am. Winless Seaford left us at the gates by kicking 7 goals straight in the first qtr and set up a buffer that we just could not breast, the result being a 20pt loss. Best; Beau & Guy Hendry and Jamie Messina (3gls). Reserves showed some flashes of hope in another rugged game but still had their score doubled failing by 42pts. Best; Gord Hendry, Jarrod Stewart and Dave McLaren. Another 20 plus goal defeat for our Thirds and I do wish that I could write of something better. Keep trying boys. Best; Rhys Uncle, Dean Berry and Bayley Burt. Thank you to the u’16 lads Kyall, Khallum and Jordan who came along to help their mates out. A good ‘rivalry luncheon’ with guest speaker Terry Daniher was enjoyed by about 81 people last week while the other 441at the ground could only watch with their noses pushed up against the window pane. Yes, the unofficial gate figure was 522, a good sign that the local derby has made a comeback and is alive and kicking. The Last Bud.
