Sadly, Pines legend Alan "Legs" Lillico passed away 21/2/2012 after a brief battle.
Our thoughts are with The Lillico family.
RIP Legsy you legend.
ALAN LILLICO
Alan (and John) commenced in 1967 with PINES Senior Club Fourths (U.15) which was our very first Fourths team. The team won through to the Grand Final but were beaten by Bonbeach. This team was the first PINES (snr club) team to play in a GF. The coach was Vern TROTTER. Vern signed the lads up at a pie night at his house. John once quipped – “If it hadn’t of been for those pies we may never have played for PINES”. Alan was voted team Best Trier for the season.
1968. Unknown. Possibly did not play.
1969. PINES Thirds – 17 games.
1970 – 1974. Played 6 senior games and 41 reserves games.
1976 – 1977. Senior’s Team Manager.
1979. Granted Club Life Membership and was voted Best Clubman.
1983 – 1985. Club Secretary.
1987 – 1991. Club Secretary.
1989. Received Club Service Award.
1996 – 1997. Club Secretary.
Total years as Secretary – 10.
Alan was also Reserves or Thirds Team Manager in a number of these years
and match days would see him involved in just about any job that was needed to be done. He was also club notes scribe and author of the weekly newsletter (“The Snake’s Hiss”).Paul Williams
Vale Legsy
I have been asked to pen a list of accomplishments of Alan (LEGGSY) Lillico. After digging a little you come to realise it would be xmas time before I finished. My first thought that comes to mind is no one could be known as a trewer Pines person than Alan. From the time I was a teenager coming through the U15 & U17 and watching him running around wearing a sleeveless football jumper with those skinny arms and great galloping action wearing his favourite number ‘60’ on his back to having the privilege of being with him at the crease in his last game of cricket when hit a 4 to win the game. Respect is determined in many ways but to see the past top players turn up during the day to pay homage to a true gentleman…..
For the young ones who I hope read this will realise that the ‘Old Fella’ who use to waddle into the clubrooms & park himself up against the bar to have a few quiet beers has done so much more for our club. If there was a list of possible jobs to be done in our club Football or Cricket he has done the lot. No fan fare required – No wanting accolades – Just got in and got the job done, if the young ones of today could do a ¼ of what Leggsy has done for us our club will be around forever.
Growing up being lucky enough to be part of era of premierships in Football & Cricket and also a big family of players, I have never heard a bad word said against Alan even when we were all a bit piddly at some famous parties at the Peacocks or Kermits and many others. I was lucky enough to play with him and be captained by him, very few would know of the times he would quietly in his own placid way give me a dressing down for something he didn’t think I should have done or said, that was his way, NO Fuss
As I said I could go on for a long time , but everyone will have their special thoughts and special times had with Alan and they are to be cherished. From a large sporting family of the Pines Football & Cricket Club he was a friend to all.
Thanks LEGGSY a privilege and honour to know you a Gentleman to the End

Ever had a mate that you genuinely loved? I did.
Legs was my first coach in football in 1974 when I was 14yo. We weren't much of a team but we had a great coach I thought. He would get us to sprint from the scoreboard around to the goals at the shop end. The first 3 kids got 20 cents mix from the fish and chip shop.
Seven years later we became team mates when we played cricket at Pines. It was the beginning of a friendship that would last over 30 years. It was a mateship that was forged out of mutual respect and admiration and it was a love given and received unconditionally.
Legs was funny. He was the king of the sarcastic one liner but when he delivered it, you knew it was meant to be funny. I remember many nights sitting around at Spud Sutton's house in Mahogany Ave. There would be a handful of us there and the crap would be dribbling but it was Legs' one liner that he threw in at the perfect time which sent us into fits of laughter. Legs loved laughing.
Legs was very, very intelligent. He would demolish the Herald/Sun crossword before brekky, go to work, then come home and answer every question on Sale Of The Century. Legs liked to test himself like that. He had great recall on almost any subject. He was always first picked on any team of trivial pursuit. He certainly raised the I.Q level of our house. Legs loved being a smart arse.
Legs was extremely loyal. He simply loved Pines and everything it stood for. Nobody from Pines could do any wrong in his eyes and if anyone needed anything, Legs would always help out. Always. He committed decades to the Footy and Cricket club out of a sense of loyalty. Check the honour boards at both clubs to see what I mean. Legs loved Pines
Legs got married. I've been fortunate enough to be asked to be in 5 wedding parties, but the day Legs asked me to be a Groomsman at his wedding was one of the most emotional days for me ever. To think that Legs thought enough of me to be part of this day was great. Legs actually hated the day. He hated the stupid suit he had to wear. He hated the speeches we had to make and he hated Coggo with a passion. Coggo let Legs have it all day with his smart arse remarks that had everyone in fits of laughter. Legs really loved Coggo.
Legs was a mighty cricketer. I played many games with Legs and I marvelled at his bowling. He was a very intelligent bowler and often "thought" the batsman out but it was as a batsmen where he won my respect. We often batted together and you had to be careful going for quick singles because of Legs illness which prevented him from running. Many times a certain 3 nearly turned into a run out chance. He never scored many runs obviously but he very rarely went out. He put so much value on his wicket. He would rather have the ball hit him in the chest or head than have it hit his wicket. That's what made him a champion. A complete team man. Legs loved his cricket.
Legs has gone and that’s our bad. Many people will come in and out of your life over the journey. Some will leave an impression, others will lift and inspire you. I hope you have a "Legs" in your life.
I love Alan “Legs” Lillico
