Pines Club Notes. Round 5.

Winter weather, winter woollies and worrying woes at Bonbeach last week as our teams were devoured by the Sharks and we now find ourselves in worsening ladder positions than this time last year. Today we host the Langaroos and there’s always a chill feeling when playing this team, maybe it stems back to those tough games of the early years, but let’s forget about that and let’s just win today. Your scribe took the liberty at our last home game of standing with our two Gate Marshalls, Dave and Brenda (nee Trotter), of who are doing a great job, and watched as they greeted each customer with a smile and a warm hello along with making sure that each person was offered a footy record to purchase. Our footy record is one of the best in the VCFL and it sure would be nice that every football follower got to read it because there is a lot of work going into getting it out there each week for you. Looking around at games I feel that the days are gone where everyone had a record in their hand and blokes always had one jutting out of the jeans back pocket. A request is out for an assistant coach at our Junior Club operated AusKick held between at 4.30 and 6 pm each Friday evening at the Pat Rollo Reserve, Silver Ave. Contact Leanne on 0423961698. Let’s do it for the kids and let’s not forget that’s where some of our great senior players got to play their first games of footy. Player milestone update, Luke Houldcroft - 100 snr games last week. Well done. Some of our veterans may remember Luke’s uncle, Gavin, who played in our 1981 reserves prem team. Who’s that big bloke in the time keepers box? That’s Peter McGarry who played in our reserves in 1984 after coming through from our juniors. Peter has been in England for a number of years and upon returning couldn’t wait to get back to his old club to help out. That’s the club spirit that we like to see.
