Chelsea Football Club broke up. A breakaway club formed led by Tom Tom Johnston, Roy O'Donnell and Fred Carpenter. It became known as the "Wells Road Team".
The League introduced a "Best & Fairest" award and Chelsea player P.Gleeson won the award in its first two years.

Casey Cardinia Club's move motion of no confidence in MPNFL Directors. Casey Cardinia Club's form new League the "South East Football Netball League" . Langwarrin move to Peninsula Division, replacing Hastings which moved to Nepean Division.was established as the governing body of the "South East Football Netball League.
Following the motion by The Casey Cardina Clubs, The Peninsula and Nepean Football Netball Clubs, which remained as members of The Mornington Peninsula Football League, also moved a motion of no confidence in the Board of Directors. Following this motion The Directors resigned and the "South East Football Netball League assumed an interim governance role. At the AGM of the MPNFL, member clubs voted to have the "South East Football Netball League" become the governing body of the MPNFL.
On a football basis, Mark Nightingale was a joint winner of The MPNFL Reserves B&F award.

AFL South East has restructures into a Divisional competition in season 2018.
There are currently 22 affiliated clubs in the MPNFL and in 2018 those clubs will play in 2 Divisions.
The MPNFL Divisional competition has been determined in accordance with AFL South East’s recent announcement relating to the Competition Review.
Division 1 will comprise of 10 teams and Division 2 will have 12 teams.
In determining which clubs should be selected to compete in Division 1, AFL South East considered the following criteria:
• Recent playingperformances
• Playing depth
• Junior pathway including viability of U19’s and junior club pathways
• Club facilities,and
• The results of a survey conducted by MPNFLClubs
For season 2018,Division 1 Clubs will be:
Bonbeach, Edithvale-Aspendale, Frankston Bombers, Frankston YCW,Mornington, Mt Eliza,Pines,Rosebud, Seaford and Sorrento.
Division 2 will comprise:
Chelsea,CribPoint,Devon Meadows,Dromana,Hastings,Karingal, Langwarrin, Pearcedale,Red Hill,Rye, Somerville and Tyabb.
