Mayor to officially open season on Saturday

The Football Bundaberg season will be officially opened by the association's patron, Mayor Mal Forman, during a ceremony on field 1 from 4.30pm on Saturday.

The format for the opening ceremony will be amended for this year only with the traditional march past of junior teams replaced by each club's banner being presented by two flag-bearers.

This change has been made in response to the delayed start to the junior and SSF seasons as a result of the unprecedented flooding which affected Bundaberg earlier this year.

The opening ceremony was originally intended to occur immediately before the first game in the new 4 Cities League.

However, a late change to that draw means all five Bundaberg teams will now being playing at Martens Oval in the first round on Saturday and the official opening will occur between the two local derbies.

The first round of junior and SSF games also will be completed earlier in the day prior to the official opening.
