In April 1935 a group of men held a meeting in the Ballandean School of Arts and the Ballandean Rovers Soccer Club was formed, where black and gold were chosen as the team colours. Those present were F Fielder, Joe Smith, Les Backhaus, Les Ashton, Ernie Booth, Sid Booth, D Williams, Ken Rowling, M Millard and Len Ree.
They tasted immediate success with winning the Stanthorpe Premiership in the same year and again in 1937 and 1938.
With the club being the oldest club in the Stanthorpe competition its longevity surely lies in the tradition of teamwork, club and community spirit associated with the Ballandean district as a whole.
Another of the clubs strengths is to continue to through the decades to improves its facilities, with again community spirit and generosity coming to bear with equipment and expertise.
This was evident again in 1997/98 when the club undertook to have its four meter slope reduced to its current slope of one meter and again in 2003 when the current club house was built through fundraising and grants from Jupiter’s and Sports and Recreation. Again local support was utilised to keep the costs down.
Ballandean’s Spirit was at the forefront when in 1991 they fielded a team in the Toowoomba competition as well as local for the next four years and whilst initially struggling in this completion made it to the semi finals every year but the grand final eluded them.
In 1998 with the then Stanthorpe Soccer Federation trialling a ladies modified competition, Ballandean fielded a side in this competition and its success has seen the ladies start with a 5 a side competition to the strong full sided completion we have today.
And even today Ballandean with the support from the Queensland Variety Club tiled and upgraded the original toilet block behind the club house
