The BDAFL held a meeting last night, 16/02/15, which was attended by the 6 clubs entering teams in the women's competition along with Libby Saddler an AFL women's programs officer.
We can advise you that most clubs have interest or registrations from around 12 to 16 players with the most being Warners Bay who have 21 ladies registered. This augurs well for a close competition.
As for the competition Round 1 will be on the 2nd of May 2015 and the competition will run for 15 rounds. Teams to be a minimum of 14 on the field but down to 12 a side is acceptable if numbers are an issue. Games will be 15 minute quarters with no time on. This will be reviewed after about 4 or 5 rounds to see if the players want to go to 18 or 20 minutes quarters.
A Gala Day is to be held on the 18th of April at Warners Bay were all teams will play in a round robin competition. That Gala Day will be attended by BARTV who will be recording the games for broadcast on the internet.
Player wise the youngest allowed players have to have turned 16 by the 1st of January 2015.
BLK our on field apparel supplier has a women's cut for jumpers and we will have the order from them later today. We need registrations so we can get jumpers orders in asap.
Club wise Rebecca Landers has agreed to be our Women's team coach.
So, the competition is building momentum and it looks like being an exciting year. Remember this in the inaugural year, wouldn't it be great in years to come to say you played in the first ever BDAFL Women's Competition!
What we need now?
Talk to you friends and try and get them involved, remember we will need water runners and message runners etc to. Encourage friends and colleagues to come to our Come and Try day this Friday at 5.30pm at Don Small Oval, Wolesley Avenue, Tacoma. Tell them no experience is necessary.
You are more than welcome to come to training with the Senior Men's team while we build numbers in the ladies team.
