Today we look back at the career of 'the big marn', longtime ruckman, Chris Becker. Chris has been a major player in all of our short success since returning to first grade football back in 2005, giving on-ballers an armchair ride from ruck contests.
After only playing 1 season in his junior days, his talents were noticed early, winning an under 14 best and fairest for an outstanding year.Sadly though his skills also were evident in his main sport, choosing to opt out of the footy and stick with cricket for the next couple of years.
After a massive double premierships in reserve grade and our move back into the first grade competition, Becks' was a major factor in the makeup of our young and unexperianced side.Having to ruck for the majority of every game, he made his presence felt by all opposition and gained the tag of a fierce and uncomprimising footballer.
His form and talented continued to show over the next 6 years seeing him win the club best and fairest in 2006 and selection in the BDAFL representative squads in 2007 & 2008.He always has polled highly in the club count but has been one of our best preformers in the BDAFL best and fairest count since 2006.
He will be sorely missed out on the paddock but has offered to assist the club in 2012 as a Ruck coach. We wish him all the best in retirement but also wish he and his lovely partner Sharon all the best on the expected arrival of their first baby sometime in july. THANKS BECKS.
