With First Grade having the bye, it was left to the 18's and First Division to fly the flag against Newcastle City this week.
Newcastle were too strong for our undermanned 18's and were convincing winners. The boys tried hard all game but were never in the hunt. Logan Mitch, Tyrone and The Barries were deserving of a mention.
The boys were pumped for our clash with the Blues in the First Division match wanting to avenge last week's result that was in their favour. Running with a strong wind in the first quarter, City took full advantage to establish a quarter time lead that was telling in the end.
It was a physical game with the crowd enjoying some big hits (Horsey can attest to this as he was on the receiving end of one!!). It was good, hard footy on display. We won the next three quarters and were able to stifle City's game but unfortunately we just fell short of reigning in the lead they established in the first quarter.
There were some good performances. Aaron Krischer was strong overhead and kicked a couple of massive goals from within the square. Cappie was instrumental in the backline in defence and came into his own when given a run on the ball in the last quarter. Tim Freeman continues to improve in his first year of AFL and had another strong game. Jade Matthison was always dangerous in front of goal. Col McSpadden was hard at it all day, busting tackles and making them and was the deserved winner of the mug.
Don't forget to see Horsey to finalise your fees and footy trip.
