Not a good weekend for the Magpies against the Bombers on their home ground.
The day started badly for us with the 18's convincingly beaten by the competition leaders. The Bombers were too strong for us around the ground with their big men dominating in the air. Michael Barrie continues to impress with his work rate and attitude. Others to stand out were Logan Mitch, Tyrone, Brent Ede and Ignatius McBride.
The rain came down just as the two's were running onto the paddock making the conditions difficult and slippery, conditions that actually suit us. It was a game of two halves for us. We won the first quarter in the rain and there was nothing in it at half time. However, Killarney Vale came out after the main break a much more competitive side and started to dominate in the middle and piled on the goals to comfortably take the spoils.
In a disappointing result there were some standout performances. Shannon Colbourne was instrumental in the backline and played his best game of the season and was duly awarded the mug. Elvis was tireless for us in the ruck and at full forward. Wilko had another sound game for us and Sully never stopped trying.
Although still riding high on confidence after two on the trot in the Black Diamond Cup competition we knew Killarney Vale would be a challenge and it would be a good litmus test for us.
Killarney Vale were slow to get out of the blocks and the quarter was fairly even with the Bombers taking a slight lead into the break. Killarney started finding their feet in the second quarter and piled on six goals to our one to take control of the game. From there they ran away with it, being too big and strong around the ground with Matt Daniel having a good game in front of the sticks for the home side. Despite the conditions, there were some great skills on display from both sides. Dean Frewin, who has been in great form in First Division since returning from injury, was awarded the mug for his diligent efforts in the backline. Others worthy of a mention are Steve Lovell, Ryan Berry, Tim Hillman and Mat Penny.
We have to regroup and train hard during the week for our road trip north to take on the Marlins this week who struggled to beat the Tigers away but will be a different prospect on their home
turf.
