In Brendan (Dooley) McGrath's last game the Newcastle City Black Diamond Cup team were able to comprehensively beat the Nelson Bay Marlins in a slick performance running out 144 point winners under lights at the No.1 Sportsground.
With winners across all lines the Blues capped off a fantastic Mega Day outclassing the Marlins in a dominant performance ensuring Dooley was farewelled in style.
Running half back flank specialist Matt Enright was in sparkling form and had his own football for most of the night with Courtney Knight, Kemp and Captain Dinneen proving a real handful up forward kicking 18 goals between them.
The endeavour from each and every player was a real highlight as was the skilful movement of the ball in the greasy conditions.
The Blues had the game won by half time coming in with an 89 point lead and were able to extend the margin with a great second half effort.
Luke Rawnsley was solid across half back and was well supported by Danny Grant, Cameron Douglas and Josh O'Bryan. Clarke Sturman, Woody and Cleaver had great games along with Mitch Knight and Burkey.
In other games the Under 18's were able to get over the Crows for the second week running with a comfortable 63 point win. The boys tackled and shepherded brilliantly and played a great brand of running football with sharp skills on show particularly by hand.
Gorto had a fantastic game with the new silver and yellow footy boots getting a nice workout. Michael Atkinson again played well and finished with four goals with Wozniak, James and Wheeler having top games. A brave effort from Will Gleeson who had an impressive game cut short with an errant ball to the face, we wish him a speedy recovery.
The boys now look forward to taking on Singleton for the first time in the Under 18's competition in what should be a very even contest.
The 1st Division team continued their great start to the season with an 86 point victory over the Lake Macquarie Crows.
Aaron Holmquest had a great game and finished with four majors and Justin Kelly, Wheeler, Chris Webster, Dan Gilbertson and Nathan Stewart all had solid games in a terrific team performance.
Off the field the Charity Mega Day was a super success with good crowds in attendance enjoying the many junior matches, jumping castle, face painting and other attractions.
A fantastic effort from Jen Hope who was the driving force behind the day and thanks to everyone who helped out from both the Junior and Senior Clubs to make the day a success.
