The Newcastle City Blues suffered their second defeat of the season on Saturday going down by 29 points to the Cardiff Hawks in blustery conditions at Billy Elliot Oval. Our First Division side wrapped up the Minor Premiership with a solid 33-point win over the Woy Woy Swans and the Under 18's thumped the Junior Swans by 280-points to book themselves a finals spot.
The senior side took on Cardiff at the graveyard for away teams that is Billy Elliot Oval. Cardiff handled the conditions much better than City who had a bad case of the fumbles and were lucky to get a goal on the board in the dying minutes of the first after Courtney handballed to Marty in the square. Marty, Stewy and Drew worked hard around the ground and big Gordo put in a solid effort in the ruck. We will look forward to meeting Cardiff again this year, and if it should be Grand Final Day hopefully on dry land this time around. The senior side will finish off their regular season against Nelson Bay this Saturday at No.1 and will be hoping to get back on the winners board.
City's Under 18's travelled to Woy Woy and recorded a big win, putting them comfortably into the final four. The 18's take on Lake Macquarie at No. 1 this Saturday in a good warm up for the finals against the number two side. 1st Division sealed the minor premiership with a win over Woy Woy in their last regular season game. City got the jump on Woy Woy early and maintained their lead to run out 5 goal winners. As well as the two minor premierships and all sides making the finals, these wins have wrapped up the club championship for City for the second year in a row, congratulations to the coaches, players and committee on this achievement.
