A good day for the Blues last week with wins in all grades against the Bulldogs. Thirds and then Ressies were much too strong for their rivals but it was a different story for the Firsts. The boys had to absorb a lot of physical pressure and overcome some uncharacteristic ball handling and disposal errors, not to mention poor accuracy in front of goal, to earn a good victory in the end. It was a good hit-out and reminds us that the games going into and during the finals are going to require much greater intensity and teamwork for the boys to get up.
There was a good crowd at the games last Sat in magnificent weather, making for an exciting atmosphere in a generally close BDC game. The Blues Thirds Grandstand, Blues Brothers Marquis and clubroom balcony, were all prominent in their vocal support to help bring the boys home.
The Bluebirds didn’t fare too well going down to the Columbines last week and have one game remaining to chalk up a win for the season. The girls will be on court 20 at 3.45 for their last game this week, so take a break from the footy to get across and cheer the girls on. It has been a great effort by the girls to get the team together this year and let’s hope they can go out in style.
This week sees Ressies and Thirds with a week off while Firsts take on an improved Cardiff at No 1, in an away game! We should have plenty of support there for the firsts in an important game to keep in the hunt for the minor premiership. The Bulldogs showed last week that all teams in finals contention will be giving their all so we’ll need to be at our best.
A big thanks to Matt Mansfield this week, who has, with the great help of Sean Janczuk, being keeping our canteen running this season. It’s been a huge, almost solo effort by Matt and has been a big contribution to the club.
