As most Club members would be aware Edward "Groover" Cross has had a very difficult start to his AFL experience in 2006. Read on to see some thoughts from Groover on how he is travelling.
Also attached and available in the Photo Gallery section of the NCAFC website is the Newcastle Herald article by Ian Kirkwood.
The article has been reprinted with permission of The Herald, Copyright 2006.
The article contained here was prepared by Groover to let the Club know who he was going. He asked that I edit it but I felt it was better coming from him directly.
I have an article here that I wrote after a friend and I chatted about how I went to the game please use it in your column of news etc. please feel free to add you input. EC
Will send pics Monday today as promised. (Website Editor's Note: He is still contributing to the Club - true Clubman!)
Groover was able to visit us on Saturday for our game although many had no idea he was there.
Stubbsy our resie coach asked him to come along and see the games and if he was well enough to take some pics of Clarke Sturmans 200th game.
Unfortunately he was just not well enough to make it for ressie's game but made it to Start of 1st grade.
He perched himself up at Clarks end out of sight and used the boundary fence to support himself and camera to do one quarter of the game.
Groover was even seen by some during the warm up sitting down leaning against a goalpost in true photojournalist style getting support and some safe shots of the warm up in case he ran out of energy and couldn't last to get shots.
Well we were lucky that the blues and Clarke went well and kept scoring down that end giving groover an abundance of good chances in which although he has said after he edits out the rubbish pics there will be enough to use which there is Groover so many thanks mate.
He say's it is hard at times having a brain injury but the Brain Injury Clinic have advised him to keep trying and he will improve slowly, he goes there 2 days a week.
Although not back at work Groover says if he cant take pics now after 20 years especially as he is a pro than then he is letting himself down cause anything is easy if you try. Groover's interview appeared in Saturday's Newcastle Herald which explained to the readers what had happened to him.
Groover would like to pass on his thanks of support to all players and officials of Newcastle city blues for their support and friendship during this challenging time.
Groover said he was sorry for not getting to he resies game and sorry for not staying to at least half time of 1st grade cause he was just too tired and not the best - hey groover relax bit by bit we are happy with your effort mate.
The Club should be proud of the support we have given Groover in the aftermath of the incident and well done to everyone who helped to contribute to his support fund on Saturday.
Keep an eye out for those great photos Groover took on Saturday - they should be up on the website shortly.
GO THE BLUES!
