In a day of mixed fortunes for the Newcastle City Club the Black Diamond Cup and First Division teams were able to register comfortable victories over Wyong Lakes and Singleton respectively.
In a day marred by a surprisingly unavailable No.1 Sportsground and a despicable and cowardly incident in one of the games, fortunately the Club were able to stick fat and win the matches with our heads held high.
For the unfortunate Under 18's the ground was unable to pass the Tony Greig "key-test" and resulted in an abandoned match despite the sun shining brightly and the poor lads from Singleton making the early journey down to the big smoke.
The teams explored other options including a later start time and a quick move across to Hawkins Oval; however a solution could not be found and so a re-match can hopefully be scheduled in the near future.
In the First Division game it was the Giggsy' show with a best on ground performance including slotting six goals tearing the Roosters apart.
Fitzhenry helped himself to five majors whilst Nathan Stewart, Dan Gilbertson, Kelso and Al Boland all put in quality games.
The game was stalled just before half time with popular new clubman Edward "Groover" Cross struck down with an errant swinging arm to the jaw. A real low point for the season thus far and our thoughts and best wishes go out to Groover for a speedy recovery.
The team eventually ran out winners by a massive 93 points with their un-beaten season continue to shine on.
After a number of delays the Black Diamond Cup team finally hit the field at 4.00pm for a twilight match against the Magpies.
City got off to a slow start with the Magpies playing a very determined and spirited game. The centre square clearances were a real battlefield and the match was going goal for goal. Buckets was providing a dangerous target up forward and with Kempy taking everything cross the half forward line City were able to hold a three goal lead at half time.
The second half was a welcome return to form with a 12 goal finish rewarding the boys for a rugged workman like performance.
Dave Woerner finally put his kicking boot on and finished with seven goals; Kempy continued his great season and kicked six whilst Courtney Knight kicked three and Mitchell Knight two.
Mitchell was in the best along with Buckets, Munners, Kempy, Azza and Cleaver.
A week off for the Black Diamond Cup team this weekend with the First Division side scheduled to take on Cardiff along with the Under 18's at Billy Elliot Oval.
The Annual Trivia Night was again a super night out at the Cambridge with Bottles and Co taking the chocolates. A couple of carry over questions remain unanswered including "Where is the home of the Giant Peanut?, which Australian Mountain is named after a City player? and just why where those gardening book so popular?".
