The Newcastle City Blues recorded an impressive first round win over a quality Gosford outfit in the Black Diamond Cup.
In windy and overcast conditions at Adcock Park, the Blues were able to capitalise on a great first quarter performance to hold out a fast finishing Gosford by 33 points.
Michael Kemp was a great target up forward all day and booted five goals to grab himself the first Carlton slab of the year courtesy of the BDAFL.
Rawnsley, McGrath, Knight, Burke and Dinneen were all solid contributors with a good team effort by all.
New coach, John Burns who had to watch from the sidelines was reasonably happy with the result, with a number of players' unavailable due back over the next few weeks.
Injuries to Enright and O'Bryan were the only dampeners on the day and Cleaver and Cotter's head clash luckily only resulting in a sore noggin and some shine off Cleaver's best birthday smile.
In other games the First Division side has a comfortable victory after some early inaccuracy in front of goals, with Deed kicking a bag for a great start to his captaincy.
The Under 18's went in with an undermanned side and although comprehensively beaten should be better for the hit out and can expect to improve as some important players return to the side in the coming weeks.
After game festivities at "Your Cambridge Hotel" were again enjoyed by all with some quality singing and dancing from the Bears, Wheels, Mrs Cotter and our Captain Dinneen.
We now look forward to a trip down the coast to Wyong next week with three good games sure to be on the cards.
GO THE BLUES!
