The Club acknowledged 32 years of dedicated service by two of its club members at the club's Christmas function at the Cambridge Hotel on Friday 16 December.
Danny and Barbara Grant have been great supporters of the club in many ways over the 32 years. Danny as a player in his earlier days, then committee person and sponsor. He has held the position of President of the club on two occasions, during which times the club enjoyed senior premierships.
His sponsorship of the club, through his company Australian Colour TV Company (previously NSW Colour TV), has been a foundation of the club's survival and prosperity for many years. Danny also sponsors the BDAFL through his company.
Barbara was a committee person for many years and has been a major force behind the clubs operations, particularly in managing functions, canteen and bar, but in many other ways. She has been the face of the club, and often Newcastle, in arranging social activities associated with football in the Newcastle area for many years and had a significant role in establishing the Newcastle junior competition.
Both Danny and Barbara have been Life Members of the Newcastle City club for a number of years but they are still active in support of the club. It is a magnificent achievement for anyone in any organisation for such an extended period.
At the function Danny and Barbara were acknowledged personally by ellow club Life Members Lynne Webster, John McMahon and Steve Wilmott in the presence of a large crowd of past and present members attending the function.
The club has named its clubroom bar at No.1 Sportsground in honour of Danny and Barbara, with the official opening to follow the first home game of the season.
So next time your are at the club's rooms make sure you enjoy a cold drink at "The Grant's Bar".
