Black Diamond Cup/Senior Coach - John Burns
John takes over the coaching reigns from Scott Harrington who will return as Assistant Coach in 2006 when his work commitments permit. John has been with the club for only one season but in that time has established himself as a respected player and leader in the Black Diamond Cup team.
He brings with him a wealth of football playing and coaching experience from country Victoria. John will be a playing coach and intends to raise the team's fitness level through a varied approach to training, develop our younger players' commitment and desire to play at the highest possible level and generally encourage the players to become more involved in the clubs activities.
John played his junior and early senior football and started his coaching career in Avenel, country Victoria. He then played and coached with other country Victoria clubs Newstead, Benalla All Blacks, Euroa and Barooga before moving on to Darwin, winning one premiership with Avenel along the way. John joined our club in 2005 after one year with Nelson Bay as captain and winning the club B&F award. He established himself as a highly respected player and brings a strong background of playing and coaching experience to the club.
We are pleased John and his wife Rebecca have settled into our club and look forward to their contributions during 2006.
First Division - Graham "Stubbsy" Stephens
Stubbsy is a stalwart of our club and has coached the first division for the past three seasons after retiring as a player.
Hopefully, with John's added guidance, Stubbsy will continue to develop our players to reach their potential and vie for Black Diamond Cup selection.
Under 18s - Steve Mitchell (pictured)
We welcome Steve back to coach the 18s in 2006. He has been successful with the boys for a few years now, having co-coached them to a number of premierships and finals appearances.
This year Steve has agreed to take the job on singularly, with some assistance from Tim Cotter. We know Steve relates well to the boys and look forward to another strong year from our 18s under his tutelage.
