The Newcastle City First Grade side marched forward with a convincing win over Wyong Lakes on Saturday. Playing in their only game over a four week period, a strong performance across four quarters was on display. The City unit outclassed their opponents showing focus and determination right through to the final siren. Strong midseason form by City youngsters Jackson Monk, Josh Avis, Dillon Calman, Cameron Keast and Matt Bailey was a highlight for the Blues. After becoming frustrated in the first quarter, a resolute 16 year old Jackson Monk told his coach he was ‘not going to roll over’, and for the remaining 3 quarters put forward one of his best performances of the season. His performance included some explosive and skilful passages of play combined with some workman like showing courage beyond his years. In an overwhelming majority Monk was named Players Player for his efforts.
To support City’s young brigade club stalwarts Rawnsley, Knight, Mark Wheeler and Stewart all contributed well. Goal kickers included Morton (7 goals), Wheeler (5 goals), Drury (5 goals), Avis (3 goals) and Burke (3 goals).
The Senior Club would also like to congratulate players selected in an extended their Black Diamond Representative Squad to play the Farrer Football League on Saturday at No.1 Sports Ground. These players include: Luke Rawnsley, Anthony Stewart, Mitchell Knight, Mat Bailey, Ian Baker, Shannon Burke, Matt Enright, Tom Hunt, Cameron Keast and Josh Wheeler
