Round 9 Match Report - 12/06/2016

Under 13’s
After two successive wins the boys unfortunately returned to the days of dominating possession but not converting on the scoreboard. Measured approach play was not matched by quality finishing; the under 13’s are working hard on their efforts in the final third of the pitch.

A 3-0 reversal in no way reflected the general run of play but numerous wasted chances were punished by the home team, Berwick FC.

The best performers for Gippsland were Oscar Plenkovich, Ryan Massaro, Kelsey Dal Pozzo, Harrison Meyer and keeper Ethan Farrell who had his best game yet.

Under 14’s
The under 14s played at home against Glen Eira who sat just below the boys on the table.

The game was very open throughout with both teams intent on playing fast, entertaining football.
Gippsland opened the scoring through a Jarrod Ross free kick before Glen Eira equalised to go in at the break all square at 1-1.
The second half was full of goals. Gippsland went up 2-1 through Connor Dastey but Glen Eira equalised immediately.
Gippsland regained the lead through Blake Whykes.
However Gippsland were left to regret missing some clear cut chances to extend their lead because a disastrous final 15 minutes allowed Glen Eira to score three quick, late goals to emerge 5-3 winners.

Under 15’s
GFC came up against a talented Glen Eira side on the weekend. Glen Eira took the lead in the first half and could have put the game away if it hadn’t been for some good goal keeping from Shem Murphy who stood strong, pulling off some excellent saves.

Gippsland scored their first goal with a Jack Walton penalty. However, the goal revived the opposition as they replied immediately. Some fast scoring ensued but the boys were always on the back foot end ended up on the wrong end of a 5-3 score line.

The goal scorers for the hosts were Jack Walton (2) and Adonya Victor.

Under 18’s
The U18 Boys returned to the winners list overcoming Sandringham in a must win match for the Gippsland Team.

Coming off a disappointing loss to Berwick last week the boys travelled to take on a home team full of confidence after defeating the league leaders the week before.

Sandringham started right where they left off last week pressing the Gippsland team at every opportunity and were rewarded with a goal in the 8th minute.

This seemed to rouse GFC who took control across the park, dominating possession to create a number of great chances and Chris Oulton pushed forward to win possession on the edge of the Sandringham box to slot the ball home to equalise.

Nelson Tombra continued his fine return after injury to score again in the 42nd minute to take Gippsland FC in 2-1 up at the break.

Sandringham came out to start the second half and showed why they’ve been successful over the past few weeks, almost scoring an equaliser in the opening minutes.

However, the Gippsland boys again took control with an exemplary exhibition of one and two touch passing to leave Sandringham trailing in their wake. Nelson Tombra, Keegan Grealy and Riley Winkleman-Atkinson all found the net in quick succession to put Gippsland 5-1 up with 25 minutes still on the clock.

Despite continuing to control most of the possession, Gippsland couldn’t add to the score and the hosts managed a late consolation goal to complete the 5-2 result.
