Round 2 Match Report - 17/04/2016

GIPPSLAND FC started slowly again this week and was punished by an impressive Mornington SC outfit. Avoidable defensive errors contributed to three quick goals for the visitors which effectively killed the game off. The hosts had a much better second half, controlling the game for long periods, but the solid Mornington defence protected their keeper well. Two late goals pushed the score out to 5-0. Kelsey Dal Pozzo, Harrison Meyer and Oscar Plenkovich were all solid in defeat.

GIPPSLAND FC lost 3-1 again this week but gave a better account of itself in windy conditions against East Bentleigh. Blake Whykes opened the scoring for Gippsland from a neat Jesse Buhagiar pass. The visitors equalised midway through the half and the teams went in even at half-time. The home team dominated possession in the second half but some poor decision making and neat counter attacking from the Strikers resulted in two quick goals in the last 10 minutes.

A hat-trick to Jack Walton was the highlight for Gippsland FC in its first home game at Trafalgar for the 2016 metropolitan south competition. Jack's treble lifted the under 15s to a stirring come-from-behind win over Brighton SC on a mixed day for the club across the grades. Brighton scored twice in the opening five minutes to leave Gippsland FC on the back foot and it didn't look to be the host's day when it squandered a penalty. A goal to Jack on the stroke of half-time offered some hope at 1-2 down, but Brighton answered quickly after the break to restore a two goal cushion. Two goals in quick succession drew the teams level and with 10 minutes remaining Jack rounded off his hat-trick to hand his team a well-deserved come from behind win. Seb McLeod was the other scorer with a well taken free kick.
