Cup Magic Over for Senior Men
A hard-fought 1-2 loss to Bell Park has seen the Senior Men's team leave the FFA Cup competition for 2016.
A record-breaking number of over 650 teams signed up to contest the FFA Cup this year, including Brunswick Zebras Senior men's team.
A great sunny Melbourne day saw Zebras banners flying over Sumner Park and a new coffee machine in action serving up high quality L'Unico brew.
Bell Park, a Geelong-based team competing in State League 4 West, were visiting with a posse of loyal supporters.
With scores at half-time a tied 1 all courtesy of Chris Kovas for Zebras, the stage was set for a hotly contested second half.
The next 45 minutes had goalkeeper Franklin Caballero called into action on several occasions, pulling out some great saves. There was action at the other end too, unfortunately featuring some very costly misses. As the match entered its final 15 minutes Zebras tired, mistakes crept in and Bell Park's constant attacks eventually paid off with a winning goal.
Nonetheless the afternoon was a productive and enjoyable hit out before the commencement of the league season.
In an earlier game the Reserves team came up with a 1 all draw against the Bell Park Reserves, great preparation for round 1 of the league which is coming up on Saturday 2 April at home against FC Strathmore in the State League 4 North competition.
