Opening Day Round Up

Nearly all of the club's teams have now hit the park with the opening round of the women and juniors season last Sunday 12 April.  Results ran the gamut from strong wins to narrow losses to scores we might like to forget.  Read about it here.

The Under 17 Boys North A kicked off the season well with a 3-1 home win at Ryder Oval over Meadow Heights.

A 10-player Under 16 Boys team played well but could not hold off FC Birrarung in a 2-1 away loss.  Coach Santo was generally happy with the effort and quality of play but is looking forward to getting players back from school holidays, Greek Easter and lack of registration.

With 9 out of 14 girls playing their very first game the Under 12 Girls (North West Joeys) experienced a 1-5 home loss to Watsonia Heights.  Coach Maria believes the girls learned a lot and was impressed by the team play that helped first gamer Rosie to her first goal.

The Under 12 Boys North Kangaroos missed out also going down 2-3 in a close match with Essendon Royals. Coach Billy is confident that the team will be winning matches soon.

Another team suffering first round lack of players but bolstered by the inclusion of some U12s, the U14 Girls went down 0-3 at home to Thomastown Raiders.  The Under 16 Girls shared a similar fate with only 9 players out at Keilor Park.

In other matches the Under 13 Boys North B lost 4 nil away at Mill Park, Under 14 North A lost 5-2 to Preston Lions away and Under 14 North C lost 0-1 to Lalor United away,

The two senior women’s teams experienced contrasting results with Rob Colla’s State League 3 North team taking all three points in a 1-2 away win over Fawkner but the State League 4 East team going down to University of Melbourne 0-2 at home.

On Saturday the senior men State League 3 North West again could not break through for a win going down in a 0-4 away loss to Lalor United.  The Reserves provided some consolation via a 1 all draw.

Also playing in Round 1 was the club’s contingent of MiniRoos teams in Under 9 Boys, Under 10 Boys (two teams) and Under 11 Boys (three teams).  No results or tables apply to MiniRoos matches.
