2012 Championship Drinks

RANGERS DOUGHT BROKEN

Kyneton District Soccer Club has broken a 16 year drought by winning its first senior championship on the weekend

Having been heartbreakingly close last weekend only to be denied by a penalty in the 95th minute, they went into the weekend only needing a point from their last game.   There oppenents forfeited the game, giving Kyneton an unbeatable lead at the top of the Division 3 North West competition.   Rangers Coach Cameron Plant stated “ We would have loved to win the championship off our own boot on the weekend, but we will take the championship, its been a long time between drinks”  The lads sure be proud of what they have achieved”

The feeling amongst the playing group was absolute elation at their achievement for the season against FFV powerhouse clubs including Altona City and North Sunshine.

Kyneton’s season started with a heartbreaking loss to Spring Hills before putting together a winning streak of six games.   At the turn the team was sitting atop the ladder, a position they took over after round 5 and never were headed.  They finished the season with 13wins, 2 draws and 3 losses.

Season 2012 has seen a number of changes in the senior side as former junior players pushed into the side and new players arrived at the club.  The team had 6 changes to the starting line-up from season 2011 but they gelled together quickly.  This resulted in Kyneton’s defence being the best in the league conceding only 23 goals for the season.

Fielding three senior men’s teams, the clubs performance has been satisfying as the seconds and thirds also did the club proud with strong seasons winning 11 games each.

Celebrations started as soon as the players were aware of the forfeit, officially announced on Wednesday and in this day of social media, shortly afterwards known by all and have continue as players, committee and supporters enjoy the drought breaking championship.

The club is already planning for season 2013.  “Our Club strategy has always been to enter into the Saturday Metropolitan Competitions.  We have always been looking to be a Saturday Club” President Ron Cole has stated.  “Satrurday’s are better for the playing group and where we have always been heading”

The club will continue to celebrate with the Senior Presentation set down for Saturday 8th of September, where the Best and Fairest and Players Player will be awarded.  It has however been a  truly team effort in season 2012.

The club is taking all the right steps with improvements in facilities at its home base, attracting new players and ensuring they provide the right opportunities to everyone wanting to play the sport.    They are looking forward to season 2013 to build on the success, however for the moment are happy to celebrate their achievements in season 2012.
