Cockburn romp Armadale

Cockburn City winger Harry O’Brien put his side’s recent performances and results down to the continuation of style since Marc Anthony replaced Scott Miller at the helm after drubbing Armadale 4-0 at Alfred Skeet Reserve.

“The philosophy is still the same. Scotty was always helping Marc, so it was a really smooth transition,” O’Brien said.

“The boys know what we’ve got to do, we’re playing the same formation and system, and the boys have just been doing a really good job.”

The score-line reflected the nature of the game between Cockburn and Armadale; with the away side dominating the majority of proceedings and keeper Dejan Aleksic not being really tested the entire game.

After a slow opening half hour, Paul Lloyd broke free of the defence and accelerated onto goal, putting the ball into the top left corner past Cyril Sharrock who was left with very little chance.

The second half started much quicker and Cockburn looked far more determined than the home side after the restart.

10 minutes in to the second half O’Brien doubled his side’s advantage after putting the ball under Sharrock from the back post, the ball just managing to find its way over the line.

Two minutes later and Antonio Naglieri had the ball in the back of the net with a fine half-volley into the left side of the net after a cross from the right.

The final goal came 17 minutes from time when O’Brien found himself unmarked at a corner kick, heading the ball from the front post into the net at the back post.

Armadale coach Lee Bamber was frank about his side’s performance.

“Not good enough, simple as. Not good enough,” he said.

“There were too many pretenders out there, too many without heart and soul.

“We are missing quality players, players in key positions who make us tick but the players who are getting the opportunity to do it aren’t doing it and it’s that simple.

“They all talk the talk, but they don’t walk the walk.”

Cockburn coach Marc Anthony was pleased with what his team produced and has set his goals for the season.

“Since I’ve been in charge, yes this is the best result,” he said.

“Our away form so far this season has been patchy, so to come here today and score four goals and keep a clean sheet, I’m delighted with that.”

“Our aim is always to progress, and progress for us is finals football.

“Anything can happen in finals football, the top team doesn’t always necessarily win it so we’ll try to get the finals, and when we’re there anything is possible.”
