ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - June 1936
The annual meeting of the Tumby Bay Football Club was held in the Commercial Hotel on Wednesday. Mr W. Thompson occupied the chair. There were a poor attendances through out the season considering the number of followers, but this apathy is due largely to the fact that the football matches are played on the race course and not on the town oval. The race course is approximately one mile from the town. This also accounted for a big drop in the receipts, which is shown in the fact that the club lost £16 10/ during the 1935 season. It was decided that the club should affiliate with the Eastern Eyre Peninsula Football Association. The election of officers resulted : — President Mr. W. D. Thomson. ; secretary, Mr. T. B. EASTERN EYRE PENINSULA ASSOCIATION - TUMBY BAY PREMIERS - 24th September, 1938
Tumby Bay defeated Lipson in the grand final in an even and exciting same which was played at Ungarra on September 24. The weather was ideal and the large crowd present enjoyed the game. Lipson were not particularly favoured by the bounce of the ball, which was difficult to judge as the ground was hard. Mr. C. B. Tilbrook had charge of the game and gave general satisfaction. From the bounce N. Auld secured and forwarded to Brock, whose kick went astray, but Kschenka secured and kicked a point. Tumby Bay were too fast for Lipson and the bounce of the ball left the latter flatfooted. H. Brougham sent the ball across wing to K. Baillie, who forwarded to Reynolds, but he kicked into a man and Excell returned. Auld took a high mark and passed to Brock whose kick found Brown, and the first goal was posted: R. France secured a knock and Blight passed to Richardson whose kick found Rex Baillie in front. He had no difficulty in posting first major. Lipson were attacking, but Nankivell and Excell were strong in defence and replied repeatedly. Rushing the ball upfield, Henriksen had a left foot snapshot that curled through by inches. D. Butler repulsed for Lipson and Brougham at centre sent well out to M. Octoman, whose pass found V. Octoman within shooting range. Scores were again in touch. Tumby Bay attacked, Brock's kick found Kschenka and the third goal appeared. Keeping up the system of goal for goal, Rex Baillie posted Lipson's third. Trezise and K. Carr defended well at half back for Tumby Bay and Lipson could not break through. Kschenka goaled just before the bell. Quarter scores : — TumbyBay, 4.3 ; Lipson, 3.0.
Attacking strongly, Lipson forced the ball forward to R. Baillie whose kick scraped the inside of the goal post on the way through. Players had difficulty in kicking the ball which appeared loose The TumbyBay attacks were breaking down at half back, where D. Butler and R. Wishart were prominent. Piper was rucking strongly for Lipson, and H. Brougham was sending them forward. A weakness at half forward right found Tumby Bay repulsing, Trezise and Nankivell being prominent. Tumby Bay could only score points, Davey and France held the full forwards safely. M. Baillie sent to G. Butler, whose pass found K. Baillie. A long kick into the goal mouth was marked by V. Octoman and his goal put Lipson within five points, when the bell rang for the long interval. Scores : — Tumby Bay, 4.7 ; Lipson, 4.2.
After the interval Lipson attacked repeatedly. H. Brougham prominent at centre and G. Butler doing good work at half forward. K. Baillie, playing well on the wing, forwarded and M. Brougham marked, but the distance was too far and Excell marked and returned. Blight secured and passed to M. Octoman. A long kick put Lipson in front for the first time. Auld did good work at centre, and many of his kicks found Brock at half forward. In a scrimmage R. Baillie goaled for Tumby Bay. Lipson took control, and from H. Brougham to K. Baillie again found that player forwarding, but Trezise and K. Carr were solid. From a scrimmage Baillie kicked his third goal for Lipson. R. France forwarded from the bounce, and V. Octoman marked a pass from Baillie and made no mistake. Excell and Nankivell proved a stumbling block to Lipson forwards, and D. Butler was acting in a similar manner at the other end of the ground. At 'lemons' the scores read: — Lipson, 7.7 ; TumbyBay, 5.7.
Ramsay forwarded from the bounce and the game became congested in TumbyBay forward lines, scoring points when goals were needed. Spectators were getting excited in anticipation of a thrilling finish. J. Carr was freed and his goal brought the Tumby Bay score within three points of Lipson. Lipson forced forward and K. Baillie's pass found Blight in position. M. Brougham marked his kick and Lipson were again leading. A succession of points and a goal to N. Kschenka, saw the teams level with 10 minutes to go. Lipson fought forward, but Ex cell marked on the goal line, and from his kick the best bit of play for the day resulted with a pass to Auld, on to Brock, on to Henriksen and then to Kschenka, and saw Tumby Bay post a goal to lead. . H. Brougham again forwarded and Piper kicked high in to the goal mouth. From a scrimmage near a behind post, M. Brougham snapped a goal to put the scores level with a few minutes to go. TumbyBay were not to be denied and a towering mark by Kschenka saw his fifth goal posted. Trezise and K. Carr were returning repeatedly at half back and Auld sent a long kick to Provis, whose hasty kick luckily found Kschenka and he made the match safe with another goal. The bell sounded with Lipson attacking.

EASTERN EYRE FOOTBALL - May 1939
Football Association. A grade match at Ungarra on Saturday last, Tumby Bay won the toss and decided to kick towards the southern end. From the bounce Ungarra were quickly into, their stride and by good systematic play soon had the ball in their forward lines where W. Pedler snapped a goal. They continued their run and had 3 goals 2 behinds on the board before Tumby scored full points from a beautiful shot by Parker. At the end of the quarter the scores were : — Ungarra 5.6 to TumbyBay 2 goals: In an endeavour to check the Ungarra onslaught Max Bray was sent to centre halfback to oppose Davey, Auld was moved to centre and Brock to centre half forward. From then onward Tumby kept within striking distance, and had it not been for the brilliant defensive work of the Ungarra backmen the visiting team may have taken the lead. However, Ungarra still held the advantage, and at half time the scores were :— Ungarra 9.7 ; TumbyBay 5.3. The third quarter opened with both sides playing good football and great work was being done by the defenders of both sides. Tumby Bay had five shots to Ungarra's six, and1, at the bell the scores were : — Ungarra, 13.9 ; Tumby Bay, 7.6. Good play continued in the final term with Tumby having slightly the better of matters. However, at the final bell Ungarra ran out comfortable winners.
Final scores :Ungarra, 15.13 ; Tumby Bay, 11.7. On the day Ungarra proved to be the far better team they were vastly superior in the rucks and played a system which could well be adopted by their opponents, who were slow off the mark, kicked wildly, allowed their immediate opponents to wander and in many cases seemed reluctant to ' mix it ' in the crushes. The form of Tumby Bay is indeed very disappointing, and if they are to repeat last year's success they must settle down and play better football than they have so far this season. Umpire Tilbrook had charge of the game and gave a very fine exhibition of umpiring.
Goalkickers : — Ungarra — W. Pedler and H. Dukes (each 5), W. Davey and R. Phillis (each 2), C. Reynolds (1) Tumby Bay— R. Parker (5), J. Carr and N. Kschenka (each 2), J. Henriksen, F. Cameron and J. Ramsay (each 1) Best players: — Ungarra — W. Davey, S. Wilkins, C. Bourne, W. Pedler, R. Phillis and M. Phillis. Tumby Bay M. Bray, C. Hewitt, K. Carr, D. Rogers, R. A. Parker and W. Brown. The B grade teams played at Tumby Bay, and the home team was successful. The final scores were : — Tumby Bay, 10.12 ; Ungarra, 4.5.
PORT NEILL ENDS TUMBY'S SEASON IN PRELIMINARY FINAL - September 2nd, 1939
There was a good attendance at Lipson despite inclement weather conditions. Tumby won the toss and decided to kick to the northern end which was favoured by a light wind. Tumby were quickly away scoring the first two goals and at the first change held an eleven point lead. The Magpies dominated the second term and at half time held sway by a margin of 2 goals and 3 behinds. Tumby threw everything they had into the third quarter but still trailed by 13 points at the last change. Vigorous football was played in the final term which kept the crowd on its toes, it was the best football of the match. The Red & Whites scored an early goal to reduce the deficeit to just seven points. At this point the rain began to fall and Port Neill who seemed to enjoy the wet conditions ran over the top of a tiring Tumby team to win comfortably 20-12 to 14-12. Best players for Tumby Bay were:- Rogers, Carr, Brock and Treleaven.
TUMBY BAY DEFEATS PORT NEILL - June 1940

Port Neill were considerably weakened after the first quarter, owing to the loss of their champion ruckman, A. Rodda, who was injured and had to be taken to hospital. On the day, the Tumby team were much faster to the ball and this con tributed considerably to their win. Goalkickers: — Tumby Bay — R. Parker 4, Thomas 4, Hewitt 2, Henricksen 2, Jameson 1 ; Port Neill— R, Couzner 3, J. Drewitt 3, 1. Cooper, C. Birkin, B. Gibbons each 1. Best players:— Tumby Bay — R. Parker, D. Rogers, R. France, M. In the grand final of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula association, Tumby Bay (6 goals 6 behinds) defeated Ungarra (3 goals 10 behinds) Parker was first to score for the Red & Whites afetr a beautiful mark over the pack and goal. Parker quickly raised another goal to see Tumby hold a handy lead at the first change. Ungarra aided by the breeze rallied strongly in the second term scoring 1 goal 4 behinds while Tumby remained on the defensive. Half time scores were Tumby 2-5 to Ungarra 1-6. After half time play see-sawed for about ten minutes before Parker goaled for Tumby Bay. From the centre bounce Auld gathered the ball and kicked it high to Parker who marked superbly but played on and evaded four defenders to score his fourth goal. These goals put new life into the Tumby team and when Rex France marked strongly in front of goal and made no mistake the Red & Whites took a strangled hold on the game. Parker added his fifth goal just before the last break when he marked and goaled from 60 yards out. Three quarter time scores were Tumby 6-6 to Ungarra 1-7.
