MASSIVE WIN TO TUMBY BLUES
Tumby Bay recorded a big 115 point win over the Eagles at Karkoo oval on Saturday in Great Flinders Football. A mammoth 12-6 goal scoring spree in the second quarter wrested the game away from the Eagles.
Craig Curtis was unstoppable in the middle and took best on ground honours. Daniel Bawden in his first game for the club bagged six goals including four in the second quarter onslaught. Michael Coad and Dylan Higgins also provided an avenue toward goal with 5 majors apiece and Kerry Franks on his half back-flank won his position well and his game was strong with plenty of rebound.

TUMBY CLINCHES FINALS APPEARANCE
Tumby Bay gave notice that it is still a force to be reckoned with by working diligently as a team to easily dispose of the Saints challenge at the Tumby Bay town oval on Saturday. In the end the result was a very easy and comfortable 73-point point victory.
The prize for the victor of this game was fourth place on the ladder and the opportunity to go for the flag. The Blues assumed total control of the game after the first few minutes with Michael Coad starring up forward along with Ricky Clark (5 goals) Jarrod Kemp, Andy Allen and Craig Curtis.

BLUES HIT FORM TO END RAMBLERS SEASON
Tumby Bay won through to the preliminary final on Saturday when they overcame a disappointing Ramblers side that could only muster two goals in the wet weather.
Best on ground with a superb exhibition of courageous, ball getting, wet weather, no frills attached football was Craig Curtis. Andy Allen in a back pocket defended stoutly as did Kerry Franks. The Coad brothers, Michael up forward and Brian in the ruck, were fine players for the Blues along with Jarrod Kemp who continues to play exceptionally well at centre half-back.

LOCK ROOS BOUND INTO GRAND FINAL
The Lock Roos bounded into the Great Flinders grand final with a determined display of team play to easily dispose of Tumby Bay by 38 points in Tumby Bay on Saturday.
The Roos were all class as they closed down the Blues. Although Tumby were first to score a goal through Dylan Higgins, they never really were allowed to play with any freedom due to the pressure from the Lock players. It’s no surprise that the best for the Blues were all defenders with Kemp, Bennett and Allen all trying their best to stop the countless Lock attacks. Craig Curtis gained the most possessions for his side but was unable to make any significant impact. Brian Coad in ruck was the best of the rest but his good ruck work was not taken full advantage of by his running players.

BLUES HAMMER COUGARS
Tumby Bay with a powerhouse performance belted Cummins Kapinnie to record a huge 91 point victory at the Tumby Bay town oval. The Blues have turned around emphatically what could have been a dismal season to one that now provides a light at the end of the tunnel.
The Blues provided the early running with Brian Coad in control in the ruck and bringing into play Kyle Atkinson and Craig Curtis in the centre. Ricky Clark on the wing also provided dash and the Blues surged. Young rover Dwayne Treasure was all class as he zipped around the packs. The sixteen year old was named high among the Blues best along with usual suspects Coad, Curtis and Andy Allen. The Blues can now look forward to better things on the horizon.

TUMBY NOT OUT OF IT YET
The Tumby Bay Blues produced a fantastic third quarter of football to guide themselves to victory by 21 points over Eyre United at the Ungarra Oval on Saturday.
The win keeps the Blues flickering hopes alive of a finals spot so they are not in the baby’s bath water to be thrown away yet. The third quarter was awesome for the Blues and in the final quarter a run for victory by the Saints was averted. Craig Curtis for the Blues set the pattern for victory. Others to perform well were Dudley AhChee with three goals, Dylan Higgins, Andy Allen and Kyle Atkinson.

TUMBY BAY SALVAGE SOME PRIDE
All too late but Tumby Bay finally played four quarters of football to easily account for Cummins Kapinnie at home on Saturday. Cougars went into the game wanting to take winning form into the finals, whilst Tumby were just playing for pride in the jumper.
The Blues come out of the blocks with all guns blazing. They produced a five goal to one first quarter to set themselves up, but it was the third quarter where they accelerated with an eight to one goal scoreline to take the points in a much needed win for the Tumby Bay Football Club.

TUMBY TURNS THE CORNER
Tumby Bay discarded their recent mediocre form to take the victory over the previously undefeated Cummins Kapinnie team by 16 points at Cummins Oval on Saturday.
A fine mark and accurate kick for goal from Blues captain Brian Coad in the opening minutes saw Tumby Bay take the lead and from that point they were never seriously challenged by Cougars. Best on ground was the Blues backman Andy Allen who had 36 possessions and continually repelled the Cougars forward thrusts. Others that played well included Ricky Clark (seven goals) Nathan Johnson, Damian ‘Edna’ Clark, Troy Desfontaines and Dylan Higgins.

BLUES IN UPSET AGAINST RAMBLERS
Tumby Bay outgunned and outplayed the premiership favourite Ramblers to inflict a 47 point defeat against them. The result came as a huge surprise to all as the Blues had not shown this sort of form all season. The Blues were at Ramblers from the first bounce maybe hoping to celebrate Steve Lawrie and Craig Curtis’s 100 game.
Best on ground was Dylan Higgins at full back who not only eclipsed his immediate opponent but dented the aspirations of the other Rambler forwards aswell. Nathan Johnson on the ball was too elusive and had greater pace than the Magpie on-ballers and Dwayne Treasure played very well also.

BLUES CRUSH ROOS
Tumby Bay released the anchors and produced their finest game of the season to crush and sweep the Lock Roos away by a staggering 99 points in the first semi-final played at the Tumby Bay Oval last Saturday.
Tumby Bay were too strong and fast for Lock and the game was in their keeping at half time after seven goals apiece in the first two quarters. Best on ground could go to anyone of several players in a team that ‘all played well’ Craig Curtis was the catalyst for firing the ball out of the centre. Big Brian Coad always had first hand on the ball and brought the likes of Nathan Johnson and Andrew Fleming into the game. Ricky Clark was superb on a wing as was Braden Southern and Dylan Higgins did a great job closing down the Lock forwards.

BLUES BLITZ SAINTS
Tumby Bay ended Eyre United’s dream of a premiership by eliminating them from a grand final berth with a hard-fought, slogging 42 point victory in the Great Flinders Football League preliminary final played at Karkoo Oval last Saturday.
The Blues found form and fitness at the right time of the season to set themselves as a real chance for a premiership flag. The game was played in very wet and windy conditions, not conducive to skilled football. The Saints bereft of on-ballers could not contain the Blues pair Andrew Fleming (26 touches) and Nathan Johnson (27 touches) both of whom worked tirelessly around the scrimmages with great effect. Ruckman Brian Coad was a colossus using his big frame to keep his opponent out of the contest. After an even first three quarters the Blues kicked away in the last term with Ricky Clark kicking two goals in a short space of time after being moved to full forward and sending the Saints out of the match. The Blues with no injury concerns and full of confidence earned the right to have a crack at Ramblers whom they defeated in their last encounter for the flag.

BLUES BACK ON TRACK
Tumby Bay bounced back from the inglorious effort of last week to inflict a very heavy defeat on the hapless Lock side by over 30 goals at the Tumby Bay Oval last Saturday.
With ruckman Brian Coad controlling the ball-ups giving his team mates first use of it, they took full advantage of this luxury. Coad added six goals to his excellent ruckwork and young gun Nigel James bagged 9 goals. Best on ground for Tumby Bay however was rover Braden Southern with Coad and James in very close proximity. The Blues are back in the premiership race after this excellent effort.

TUMBY BOUNCE BACK INTO WINNERS CIRCLE
Tumby Bay bounced back on Saturday to overcome a keen Yeelanna side and even the score after losing to the Eagles in the first round. The game at Tumby Bay was played in almost perfect conditions with neither side gaining the early ascendancy.
The Blues posted the first major for the match when young Jay Shannon was awarded a free kick in the forward lines after a great run down chase and tackle. The Blues held a narrow advantage at the main break but after half time they dominated the Eagles to record a sound 22-point victory. Nigel James was on top in the ruck, Andy Allen was the most effective forward on the ground with five goals and Jay Shannon provided a good target up forward to be deservingly named Tumby’s best player.

Prime takes out second Mail Medal……..Tuesday September 2, 2008
Tumby Bay full forward Chris Prime has won his second Mail Medal in as many years after taking out the award from fellow teammate Paul Jefferson at Monday Nights Great Flinders Mail Medal count. The count was hosted by the United Yeelanna Football Club at the Karkoo Hall with a good crowd and representation from all clubs in attendance, with Martin Leslie providing an entertaining guest speakers role.
Prime entered the count as one of the favourites after having another outstanding year with the Blues, finishing the minor round with 121 goals for season 2008. He finished the voting strongly to poll 29 votes, picking up best on ground votes in 2 of the last 3 minor round games to overtake Lock playing coach Gavin Griffiths, who had jumped to a surprised lead early in the count after some startling early season performances. Jefferson also finished voting strongly to finish runner up to his Blues teammate with 25 votes, with Griffiths finishing the count in third position on 24 votes.
Prime was present at the count, and thanked his Blues teammates and his family for supporting him throughout the season, and was humble and shocked by his second medal in a row. He was presented with the medal by Guest Speaker Martin Leslie and Sunday Mail representative Tam Phillis. The full forward moved to the Blues at the start of the 2007 season to finish his career and has enjoyed amazing success since joining the club, and shows no signs of slowing down. He kicked 150 goals in 2007, and has so far amassed another impressive tally of 129 goals to date this year.
Runner up Paul Jefferson capped off a solid season in the minor round, finishing second behind Prime, and taking out the GFFL Best Player in Association games, and also winning the Brenton Rehn Memorial Player of the Year Trophy. Griffiths was outstanding in finishing 3rd after missing a number of games in the middle of the season, and also absent due to injury towards the end of the minor round. In a good night for the Blues, youngster Brock Birkin won the best Under 21 and Best Under 18 Awards, and David Butler won the reserves medal with 15 votes after playing just 6 minor round games. Team mate Andy Allen finished second just 1 vote behind Butler, with Ramblers Craig Povey and Cougars Vinnie Phelps tying for third place.
Congratulations to all involved with the United Yeelanna club on hosting a successful night, and congratulations also to all trophy winners, and especially Chris Prime on his magnificent effort in winning back to back Mail Medals.
