GRAND FINAL CLIFFHANGER TO RAMBLERS
A rushed point in the time-on period gave Ramblers their fourteenth consecutive premiership victory in the Great Flinders Football League on Saturday.
Ramblers defeated minor premiers Tumby who were playing their first season in the Great Flinders League. Before a crowd of approx 2000 people Tumby won the toss and kicked to the northern end that was favoured by a two to three goal cross breeze. Tumby used the breeze well and goals from Kroemer, Lamshed, Burton and Dunn saw them capture a handy 22-point lead at the first break. Ramblers hit back hard in the second term adding four majors of their own and at half time the Magpies held a slender 1-point advantage. An even third term eventuated with both teams fighting hard for supremacy. Mail Medalist Brenton Lamshed had a purple patch and was in everything as Burton and Harris goaled for the Double Blues to see them steal a mini-break on the Magpies who fought back late in the term adding two late goals to trail by just 2-points at the final change. The whole ground was electric as the two sides gave every piece of effort they had left in a frantic last quarter. Ramblers eventually broke the dead-lock to kick the first goal of the quarter but Michael Harris quickly replied for Tumby and scores were all tied-up with only a few minutes left on the clock. The Double Blues attacked hard but opportunities went begging - a missed handball under pressure and no support for a running player. Ramblers moved the ball forward and managed to rush a point and shortly after the siren sounded ending one of the best grand finals every witnessed in Great Flinders Football. Final scores Ramblers 7-11 defeated Tumby Bay 7-10.

Tumby Bay took control in the second half against top team Ramblers to run out 37 point winners in Great Flinders Football on Saturday.
Tumby kicked into a slight breeze in the first quarter with opening goals to Burton and Gregurke. Ramblers came strongly into the game late in the quarter. The second quarter belonged to Ramblers who showed more system. At the half time break Ramblers led by 9 points and were playing the better football. Although Ramblers scored the first goal in the final term Tumby were able to steady and eventually ran out comfortable victors. TUMBY BAY SURVIVE SAINTS CHALLENGE
Tumby Bay held off a spirited challenge by Eyre United to win by seven points in Great Flinders football last Saturday.
Tumby Bay opened full of running to set up a valuable three goal break in the first 10 minutes of the game. Tumby dominated the centre square and the tenacious Kroemer effectively finished off their forward thrusts. The five goal lead that Tumby held at quarter time proved to be a match winning one. From quarter time onward the match developed into a tremendous contest. For Tumby Bay Lamshed displayed magnificent ball skills and disposal to set up play for his team mates. Whittaker showed great dash in clearing the ball from Tumby’s defence while Sorrell controlled centre half forward. Although the saints outscored the Blues in the final three quarters Tumby had done enough early to hang on and win a close contest by three points..

TUMBY BAY OUTCLASS KAPINNIE
Tumby Bay proved far too strong for Kapinnie and were completely outclassed by the Blues to the tune of 87 points at Kapinnie oval in Great Flinders football last Saturday.
Tumby Bay won the toss and kicked with the breeze to record an eight goal to one first quarter. They continued their dominance in the second term to post another eight goals while Kapinnie added two. Whittaker at full forward was too strong for the Tigers defenders and Burton took many marks for the Blues. Carr was winning in ruck and Lamshed was at his brilliant best, moving all over the ground. These players were well supported by some good work from forwards Gregurke and Stringer. The second half was a more even affair with Tumby Bay maintaining their advantage by scoring 7-7 to 6-5 from the Tigers.

RAMBLERS HOLD OFF CHALLENGE
Ramblers virtually clinched the minor premiership by holding off a determined second half challenge from Tumby Bay to win by 11 points at Cummins on Saturday.
Tumby Bay won the toss and went with the breeze to the southern end and opened with a lucky bounce off Whittaker’s boot on the goal line. Wingman Kroemer playing well for the Blues, found Burton for a strong mark and accurate kick, to record a second goal. Ramblers completely dominated the remainder of the first half however and led 8-7 to 2-4 The third term was a real arm wrestle with Tumby only managing to reduce the margin by 13 points going into the final term. Tumby did all the attacking in the last quarter with early goals to Burton after a strong mark, followed by Kroemer courtesy of two fifteen metre penalties and Burton after another strong mark. Unfortunately Tumby could only manage one behind for the rest of the quarter and ramblers held on to win by 11 points. United Yeelanna overcame a slow start to outplay Tumby Bay in the Great Flinders Football League match at Karkoo at the weekend.
Kroemer, Burton and Whittaker were outstanding for the Blues in the opening quarter. It was all Tumby Bay as they led 7-4 to 3-4 at quarter time. Yeelanna hit their straps in the second quarter adding eight goals and restricting Tumby to four to hold a two point advantage at the main break. In the third term the Blues were held scoreless while the Eagles slammed on five goals and seemed to have the game in their keeping at three quarter time. Burton, Southern and Whittaker were trying hard for Tumby Bay but they had no answer for the Yeelanna side that posted another seven majors in the last term to run out easy winners 23-12 to 15-8. Tumby Bay had their injury problems to defenders Ovens and Oswald but their performance was patchy. Burton tried hard all day wether at half-forward or in the ruck, Allen and Southern were workman like in defence and Whittaker with his six goals was a target up forward for the Blues.

RAMBLERS WIN 15th STRAIGHT FLAG
Ramblers posted their fifteenth consecutive premiership in the Great Flinders Football League on Saturday when a gallant effort by Tumby Bay faltered in the final term and the Magpies ran out winners by 42 points.
Tumby Bay captain Brenton Lamshed won the coin toss and elected to kick to the northern end on a firm surface, with the aid of a south-easterly. Tumby were first to attack and were playing the short kicking game to great effect and hit the scoreboard early with goals to Kroemer, King and Daniel Anderson. Ramblers hit back late in the quarter and at half time held a six point advantage. The third term was a see-sawing affair with Tumby adding four majors with the breeze but Ramblers were able to take a three point lead into the final quarter after scoring three goals of their own. The Magpies aided by the breeze were able to see off the tiring Blues side and added a further five goals in the last term to run out comfortable winners by 42 points. Tumby Bay’s best player was Brenton Lamshed who tried everything to get his team going and had countless touches with uncanny ability to read the game. Danny Kroemer used all of his experience and courage on the wing to drive his team forward on many occasions. The two Johns, Ovens and Southern were the best of the Tumby defence with some fine rebound and determination and Peter Allen until injured gave his team a fine effort.

In a high standard game that was played in perfect conditions the home side Tumby recorded their first victory of the season against arch rivals Ramblers.
The game opened at a fast pace with Brenton Lockwood scoring first for Tumby Bay but after a keen tussle Ramblers led by two goals at quarter time. Tumby showed greater desperation and use of the ball during the second term and had a handy lead of two goals at the long break. Mail Medalist Burton and Garry Carr for Tumby began to show their influence and Downey at half-back supported by Anderson and Bennett withstood many of the Ramblers forward movements. KAPINNIE HOLD OFF TUMBY IN CLOSE GAME
In the Great Flinders football match at Kapinnie on Saturday, the home side held on grimly to defeat a fast finishing Tumby Bay by five points.
Kapinnie kicked to the southern end aided by a three goal breeze and were immediately into attack and goals came freely, with the Tumby defence under constant pressure. At quarter time Kapinnie led 8-1 to Tumby Bay 2-2 the second quarter was a hard slogging contest with both teams scoring only one goal for the quarter. Up to half-time Tumby was best served by Oswald and Southern in defence along with followers Lamshed and Lockwood. The third quarter was also very even with Kapinnie kicking five goals to Tumby’s four. At the start of the last quarter the Tumby centreline began to get on top and with Lamshed, Kroemer and Lockwood delivering the ball perfectly Tumby were away. Dunn came into the game and Burton and Carr started to grab some big marks, something that they had not done all day and this enabled them to slam on eight goals in very quick time with Kapinnie looking done, however they were able to hang on until the final siren to win by five points.

LAST KICK PUTS LOCK IN FRONT
In a tense and exciting game played in ideal conditions at the Tumby Bay oval, Lock recorded a one-point victory over the home side, with a kick after the siren.
The winner of the game was almost assured a finals birth. At quarter time Lock led by 2 points with both teams kicking four goals for the term. Lock combined well in the second quarter to establish a six goal lead at half-time as Tumby lapsed in concentration and failed to apply pressure to the Roos. Tumby began the second half strongly with a lift from Carr in ruck and determination from Les Lockwood and Dennis Kroemer. However just as Tumby appeared to be back in the game Lock kicked away again to be leading by five goals at three quarter time. In the last term the crowd anticipated a runaway win to Lock but the Tumby players showed great character to keep plugging away. Carr began to control the centre square as his side surged forward repeatedly to score several goals. With the scores all tied-up and only seconds remaining to play Lock moved the ball forward only to see Carr take what appeared to be a comfortable mark in the back pocket. However the umpire ruled that interference had occurred and he awarded the kick to Durdin from 20 metres out, as the siren sounded. Durdin registered a point to ensure victory to Lock in an exciting game.

THE SAINTS GO STORMING IN
Eyre United played their most convincing football of the season to outplay traditional rivals Tumby Bay at Ungarra on Saturday.
Eyre United started the game strongly with seven first quarter goals. John Southern and Les Lockwood worked very hard for Tumby who fought back toward the end of the quarter with goals to Milton (2) and Liddell. At the start of the second quarter, Tumby already had Burton moved into ruck, and it was him along with Steve Milton who inspired their team to play their most determined and best football for the match. Milton won many possessions and must have been disappointed to see most of his attacks not finished off. Scores at half time were Eyre United 9-4 to Tumby Bay 6-12 After a scrambly start to the third quarter the Saints pace troubled Tumby. Only Southern, Lockwood and Bennett seemed able to stop the running Saints with Milton still launching many attacks. Tumby kept trying to the end but could not match what was a more complete team effort by Eyre United.

TUMBY WIN FIGHT FOR FIRST POINTS
Tumby Bay defeated United Yeelanna in a close game in the Great Flinders League at Karkoo on Saturday.
Both teams were striving for their first win of the season. Going into the wind the eagles took 20 minutes to score their first major then rattled on four more for the term to lead 5-5 to 2-4 at quarter time. The second term was again low scoring with each team only managing two goals. Scores at half time were United Yeelanna 7-9 to Tumby Bay 4-12 With six goals in the third term Tumby kicked themselves right back in the game. Les Lockwood was playing well at centre half forward, Burton was starting to grab the marks and Dunn scouted well around the goals. Three quarter time saw Tumby with a five point advantage 10-18 to 10-13. It was a tight last quarter but by the final siren Tumby had edged to a two-goal lead and they had broken their drought with a well deserved win. John Ovens was tight in defence all day backed-up by Carr at full-back whose kicking out was a feature. Head was constructive especially when resting at half-forward. Lockwood was good at centre-half-forward, Burton took strong marks in the second half and running players Milton and Liddell were also prominent.

RAMBLERS SHOW WINNING FORM AGAINST TUMBY BAY
Ramblers ran out winners by 22 points against Tumby Bay in a low scoring match at Cummins on Saturday.
Adverse weather conditions detracted from what could have been a great match. Carr was best for the Tumby Bay as he generated drive for the Blues all day. He was supported well by Ovens whilst Steve Anderson and John Southern were stubborn and purposeful in defence. Also worthy of mention was Andrew Horgan on a wing.

United Yeelanna defeated Tumby Bay when they met at Karkoo on Saturday. Both teams had won their opening round games last weekend and Tumby lead at the first change only to see Yeelanna hit back in the second quarter to lead by 15 points at the long break.
For Tumby Bay John Ovens at centre-half back was unobtrusive and effective and held his position well against several opponents. Steven Anderson was a consistent forward with Peter Burton being most effective when resting from ruck at full forward always looking dangerous.

Lindsay Henry leaves Bays floundering
While Adelaide scribes praise the skills of rovers Platten, Antrobus and Naley, Eyre United supporters marvel at the skills of their first year rover Lindsay Henry.
All of his talents were on full display on Saturday at Ungarra as he helped destroy a hard fighting Tumby Bay. Steve Anderson for three quarters cleared strongly to be the Blues best. Peter Burton until injured late in the game battled his big heart out and gave Tumby a strong focal point at centre half forward and John Ovens bustled and beat a very good player in Shane Harris. Others to rate a mention were Allen, Bawden and Lockwood.

RAMBLERS OVER POWER TUMBY IN FIRST-SEMI
Ramblers unceremoniously dumped Tumby Bay out of the finals race in Great Flinders football on Saturday by handing out 128 point drubbing at Kapinnie Oval.
The Magpies had too much pace, skill, teamwork and endeavour for the Blues to run out winners 25-14 to 5-8. Tumby Bay had very few players who could be satisfied with their days work such was the ease of the Magpie victory. Andrew Horgan never shirked an issue and never gave up trying for his side. Gavin Montgomerie had many touches and Mark Pobke was sound in defence.

RAMBLERS DEFENDERS HOLD OFF TUMBY BAY
Ramblers defeated Tumby Bay by 25 points in the Great Flinders football preliminary final at Karkoo on Saturday.
Tumby kicked to the northern end with a two-goal wind advantage and soon had two goals on the board from Michael Harris and Andrew Higgins. Ramblers added a late goal to see Tumby lead it by 9-points at the first change after they squandered many scoring opportunities. Tumby suffered a huge blow in the second term when full forward Peter Burton was forced to leave the field with an injury. He did however return after half time and kicked two goals in the third term to see the Blues still in touch with the Magpies at the last change. Ramblers with the aid of the wind in the last quarter proved too strong for the Blues to run out winners 15-9 to 11-8. Best players for Tumby Bay were Murphy, Franklin and Pobke.
