The Roos started the game with 7 players missing from their lineup from their victory over the Toronto Rebels which gave a number of players new to the game a chance to grab a permenant place in the side going forward. A slow 1st 20 minutes where the 'Roos had very few winners on the ground which mean't the only goal for the quarter came from Travis McKenzie after 5 minutes and the 'Roos were down by 5 points.
Another slow start could mean trouble as the Blues were running hard in numbers, winning 1 on 1 contests and looking stronger thru the midfield. The 'Roos struggled in thse areas and only kicked 1 goal thru Jeff Vance who roved the ball off the pack and kicked straight on the run from 25 metres out. The Blues had stretched their lead with another 4 goals out to 21 points at half time.
Some structural changes and a stern talking to the team was the order of the day during the 1/2 time speech as the 'Roos looked for a spark. That spark came 1 minute in as Travis Mckenzie goaled on the run from 60 metres out. Had momentum shifted the crowd was left asking? The answer came 5 minutes later when BBB Bobby Sears ran onto another loose ball and goaled and 'Roos had closed the margin to 9 points with 14 remaining.
The backline at the other end started to get on top with Chet Long, Adam Jacobs and Brett Connell cutting off the supply of ball and rebounding it back. Andrew Hogan and Dusty Allen were now patrolling and winning the midfield but our next venture on the scoreboard didn't come until the 17 minute mark when BBB Bobby Sears goaled again after taking a great contested mark. The 'Roos had kicked 3 goals to nil for the term and only trailed the Blues by 4 points after 3 quarters.
What a turn around from the first half, the 'Roos stealing the momentum and putting goals on the board. With winners now in most positions on the ground a centering kick from McKenzie found Riyad Karacic who goaled from 35 metres to give the Roos the lead for the 1st time. Regaining the lead when 4 goals down dies wonders for a teams confidence and the 'Roos went from strength to strength. Emile Studham making his season debut marked and goaled from 60 metres and Chris Haesler goaled from a centering kick again from Travis Mckenzie and the 'Roos had pulled away. Not to be out done Haesler centered the ball to the "hotspot" where BBB Bobby Sears marked and goaled and the win was achieved. The boys home by 21 points.
A great test for 'Roos as the Blues pushed them in all aspects of the game and when the chips were down the character of the club shone through.
No rest for the Division 1 team as they now face the Broadview Hawks next week.
