The start of the 2012 AFLO Season is just one week away, with all three Toronto Dingos divisions winding down their pre-season regimes and gearing up for what will no doubt be an exciting opening weekend of Australian Rules Football.
The hard work in the offseason has washed away the highs and lows of 2011, as the Dingos embarked on a formidable Winter Training regiment aimed at making the Red and Black a fitter, stronger club with the endurance needed for the long season ahead. And now, with the coming of warmer weather (...eventually), the time has come to get back on the pitch and show the AFLO what the Dingos are made of, and what it means to wear the Red and Black.
C'arn Dingos!
Division 1 - Round 1 vs Guelph Gargoyles - Saturday, May 5th at 1:00pm (match page)
The Div 1 squad will be starting off the season with a home game against the Guelph Gargoyles, who claimed victory in 2011 over the Dingos with a 11.11-77 to 7.8.50 score in a cold and wet Round 5 matchup (writeup here). It will be the first of two matchups this season, with the second half of the home-and-home coming in late July during Round 10. The match will be played at the Dingos home ground, Humber South (map here).
Division 2 - Round 1 vs. Guelph Gargoyles - Saturday, May 5th at 3:00pm (match page)
The Div 2 squad will also be starting off the 2012 season against the 'Goyles Div 2 team, following the Div 1 matchup at Humber South. The Div 2 team had quite a bit more success against Guelph in 2011, taking back-to-back matches against the 'Goyles in Rounds 5 and 7, by scores of 8.2-50 to 5.3-33 and 6.14-50 to 6.2-38, respectively. The Div 2 squads will also face a rematch later this season in Round 10, same day as the Div 1 teams.
Women's Team - Round 1 vs. Hamilton Wildcats - Saturday, May 5th at 12:00pm (match page)
The Toronto Dingos Women's Team will have their inaugual match against the Hamilton Wildcats, opening the festivities on May 5th for the club as a whole at 12:00pm. This will be the first match for both squads, as both the Dingos and the Wildcats Football Clubs have expanded into the Women's Division in 2012. The two squads will play twice more in 2012, with rematches in Rounds 5 (in Hamilton) and 14 (at Humber South).
