Team Duggan proved the indoor football world wrong as they won their first premiership in style against the undefeated Team Bell by 32pts last night.
Underdogs for this game — and rightly so — Team Duggan played inspired footy from the first bounce and set up the win by halftime, leading by 47 pts. At quarter time, Team Duggan led by 15 pts, but it was the second term where they put night and day between them and Team Bell, kicking six goals to four behinds -- 10.2(62) – 1.9(15). Not even a war of words on Twitter could rattle the cages of the Team Duggan camp, when Tom Bell claimed” If Team Duggan were a font, they’d be Comic Sans”. For Team Bell, it was the one that got away. They were the most consistent team during the regular season but couldn’t quite shift gears last night. Too much left to too few.
Final Score: Team Duggan 13.5(83) def Team Bell 6.15(51)
The minor premiership, the “Bronze Cup”, played out between Team Yoni and Team McKay was a much closer and scrappy affair. Both teams had chances throughout the game to kick away but couldn’t quite get majors at the pivotal times. Team McKay — who were flogged last week — came out hard and lead from the front for most of the first half. At quarter time they led 15-13 and halftime 23-21. It was only a two point ball game at the major break. Then, Team Yoni’s experienced players stood up and broke through the lines kicking three unanswered goals (and keeping Team McKay goal less) to take a 15-pt lead at three-quarter time. It was a game-changing quarter. Despite not kicking a goal in the last quarter, Team Yoni managed to hang on to win the 2012 Bronze Cup.
Final Score: Team Yoni 6.6(42) def Team McKay 4.8(32)

Congratulations to the winners! But really, we’re all winners, right? Right!
Impressed with the turnout over the last four weeks — with 30 players committed to playing at the ugly time slot of 10.30pm on a Thursday.
Well done to all.
With six weeks or so left before the first bounce, let’s keep high numbers up!
See you next indoor football season!
