Round 2 had the Swans travelling the 401 to Toronto, where they both came out victorious.
The Lady Swans played first and beat the Etobicoke Kangaroos (Swans 6.3.39, Roos 4.5.29). This was their first game of the season as they were awarded a win, when the Lady Dee’s were unable to field a team in Round 1. The Ladies came out strong and got on the score board early. The second and third quarters saw good attack on the ball and great shepherding. Up until the 4th the Ladies dominated on inside 50's and center clearances thanks largely in part by strong consistent play by Pirate and Leggo, It was a good thing they had a sizable lead going into the 4th, because the Roos did not give up and came close to taking the win. Coach Lockhart was impressed with Voodoo, Lauren, Alaska and Vivian, who got their “wings” as they played in their first OAFL game.
Speaking of impressive, the guys beat the Toronto Eagles by 106 points!!! (Swans 22.13.145, Eagles 6.3.39). With 22 goals the offensive side of their game was on full display, but just as important, the defense held up to the pressures thrown at them time and again. The Swans learned from their poor second-half showing against the Demons last week and structures and discipline were very high on the training agenda. It was “a strong overall performance”, said Assistant Coach Roffey Scoreboard contributions from the midfield complimented the great work from the forward line. A few defenders (Crimmo and Fingers) even got in on the goal scoring action. Coach Rod Frank asked for a full 80 minutes of hard play and that is what the boys delivered.
It's always difficult to win on the road, especially against strong sides such as the Eagles and Roos, but both teams did just that. Having these wins early in the season is huge and should make other teams take note that Swans travel just fine!
Round 3 sees the Swans play the Rebels at Rideau Carleton Raceway, this Saturday June 7th. Ball up at 2 pm.
