Swans men one win away from playoff spot
Game to be held Aug. 31 at the Rideau Carleton Raceway
It’s been a quite a season for the Ottawa Swans men’s team, who have come back from a weak 2012 season.
The Australian Rules football team is currently battling for a playoff spot in the Ontario AFL. If they win their last league game of the year on Aug. 31, it will be the first time in club history that the men have advanced to the playoff round.
The men will play Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. at the Rideau Carleton Raceway. The game is played inside the racetrack, located behind the casino and restaurant building. The entrance is marked with a white admissions tent.
They will face the Toronto Eagles, currently ranked third in the league. The Swans have won their last four games, and will look forward to be lead by last year’s team MVP Darren Roffey, and Canadian National Team members Nathan Strom and Michael Kozlowski.
“A win on Saturday would be monumental for the club,” said president Chris Maclean. “It would mark the first playoff appearance for the men, and a huge shift in rankings from last year’s finish.”
The women qualified for playoffs in 2012 and have already qualified for playoffs for the 2013 season. The first round playoff matches will be held Sept. 7 in Toronto.
Australian Rules football is a fast growing sport in Canada, played by Australians, Canadians and internationals alike.
