A gutsy but ultimately disappointing end to the Swans 2014 season on Saturday at the RCR against the Blues. (Blues 9.6.60, Swans 3.11.29) The game was reduced to a slug fest in the bitter cold and rain, and on final analysis, this simply did not suit the Swans' modus operandi.
The Swans had their opportunities in the forward line, particularly in the 1st and 3rd quarters, but couldn't convert, whereas the Blues scored their goals from very close in with snaps and opportunistic scoring, not from set shots. The work rate and presentation from the Swans' forwards could not be faulted.
The midfield and rucking division worked hard all day in extremely trying conditions. Getting match ups and rotations right was challenging but ultimately the job was done. The Swans inside 50 count was statistically healthy across the quarters.
The back-line was resilient all day, and on balance repelled most of what the Blues threw at them.
Even with all this, in the end the Swans just weren't good enough on the day.
The Swans wish the best of luck to the Blues and the Hawks in the AFLO Grand Final.
The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank the boys that leave us at the end of this season. If you are returning to Australia or other parts of the globe, "Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the cause. Though you are leaving you should know that you always have a place here in Ottawa with us, Once a Swan always a Swan”. For those remaining, there is still much to celebrate in our season with the Ladies Grand Finals, upcoming Club B&F awards and the footy trip not far away.
To each and every player: thank you for your hard work, your dedication and commitment to the club and your mates. A quality football side, made up of quality blokes. You did yourselves proud this year and your footballing futures are very bright.
