“Opportunity, Desire, Reward. All three boxes ticked on the weekend in a big day out for the Ottawa Swans Football club, and our overall 2014 season”, Coach Rod.
Round #5 of the 2014 AFLO season saw a physically testing clash at the Humber College South, with the Ottawa Swans coming away with the win - and the Canada Day Cup - over the Grand River Gargoyles. In what was one of the best games so far for the Swans, they continued on with their performance against the Blues the round before and played 4-quarters of football. Contest by contest, quarter by quarter, the Swans matched and often exceeded every effort from the Gargoyles.
On a hot day the middle worked tirelessly from the outset, with Morgan Whyte, Tom Stafford, and Darren Roffey working hard in the clearances to get the ball forward. The back six were fantastic limiting the Gargoyles affect on the scoreboard. Bogdan Rotaru and Jake Plunkett-Latimer continue to show why they each deserve to own the wings of the oval.
Good sides like the Gargoyles don't roll over, so the test was the 3rd quarter. The Gargoyles put up 3 goals early, but the Swans responded with 4 of their own. Kyle Provost got his first of the season. The temperature and the intensity of play required a strong interchange and both Jean-Francois Chapman and Charles Bernard rose to the occasion. Great leadership and play from our CHF, Mike Kozlowski, his vocal direction on field and in the huddles helped bring the Canada Cup back home.
Round 6 is on the road and goes this weekend. The Men take on the Toronto Dingos and the Ladies compete against the Hamilton Wildcats.
