The National Canadian Australian Football Team - “Northwind”. competes in international competitions:
- annually Parallel Cups between Canada and USA
- every 3 years in the International Cup held in Australia
- friendly matches against other countries
Northwind is thrilled to be representing Canada in events that have representative teams from throughout the
world and it is our goal to show everyone that we have what it takes to be extremely successful at Australia’s great game. Playing “footy” in front of Australian crowds is a thrill that is so rewarding and unforgettable. The average AFL game in Australia has in excess of 30,000 spectators and the famed Melbourne Cricket Ground houses just on 100,000 people!
The organising and coordinating of the national program takes considerable effort and as such we are looking to the Canadian and Australian communities to assist in our journey.
Our player base is made up of 18-35yr old Canadians. International countries cannot have ex-pat Australians playing in their squads – it truly is an international representation of footballers.
We have competed internationally since 1993 and have participated at the Imternatioal Cup in Australia since 2002. Our experience indicates that it costs our players approximately $5000 to be play in the International Cup.
As a registered “Not For Profit” organisation Northwind (AFL Canada) is relying on the generosity of individuals and businesses both in Canada and Australia to help ease the financial burden placed on our enthusiastic players. We appreciate all the support that you can give!
Please consider offering a financial contribution to Northwind.
All contributions will be acknowledged on our Team Website!
We are also looking to provide Advertising Opportunities for businesses through our uniforms and on field banners – for further information please contact s@aflcanada.com. Merchandise, company gift certificates and alternative promotional material are all options for our team and we encourage any discussions regarding these matters.
