EAST RINGWOOD – MATCH REPORT Rd12.
by Peter Booth
FINAL SCORE – VERMONT 19-15-129 def EAST RINGWOOD 16-10-106
A bleak cold day with no rain and a soft ground which was in better condition than expected. Just one change at selection with Hall returning at the expense of Waller. However on match day Holmes was a late withdrawal and Waller came back in.
It was a strange game – goal for goal for the most part – some low patches where a lot of our players went out of the game then a wonderful last quarter with everyone contributing. Ash Froud played his 100th game and finished with 4 goals. There was plenty of feeling in the game with East Ringwood receiving 3 yellow cards.
Ross got his punters off to a good start with first goal via Froud. Greig goaled via Davidson who was to play his best game since joining the Eagles. The Roos kicked the next two with Williams at this stage doing well in defence. Later in the game Danny Young and Marty Ekers led our backmen a merry dance. Talevski goaled via Davidson then Davidson goaled via McCarthy. A bad defensive error saw Millhouse goal. At ¼ time we led 5-2-32 to 3-1-19.
When Millhouse goaled early in the 2nd quarter after a terrific team effort the Vermont supporters were on good terms. Things quickly changed with ER kicked the next two.
Talevski goaled via Cassidy and when Froud goaled the ship was steadied momentarily as the Roos kicked the next two - they would not go away. It was goal for goal before half time with both sides kicking another two – Talevski via Cullen and Cullen via Ross. At ½ time we led 10-3-63 to 9-8-62. Better players for the half were Ross, Morse, Talevski and Davidson. There were very few players who played well for both quarters. Hall with limited game time did well.
It was again goal for goal in the 3rd quarter – Froud kicked our first with a quick reply by the Roos. Greig then produced a miracle snap goal over his shoulder tight on the boundary the ball then took a leg break to bounce through the middle. The Roos kicked the next two before Froud goaled via Cullen. At ¾ time scores were level and the only thing we had going for us after a flat display was the breeze in the last quarter. Vermont 13-9-87 level with East Ringwood.
Papillo set the standard for what was going to be a very good last quarter with an inspirational smoother. Mullett produced a terrific Captain’s goal when needed with a brilliant snap. Then Talevski who had been good and hard at the ball all day kicked the next two – the first via Greig and the second from a snap. One of the teams big contributors was Brad Hall – his was imposing himself on the game and did make a difference. Morse showed blinding courage to go down heavily but after a few anxious moments rose from the turf battered and bruised but thankfully safe. Just when the banter between both supporter groups was one sided because we were on top the Roos kicked 2 very quickly but when Talevski kicked his 6th the four points were ours. Vermont home by 23 points.
Goalkickers – Talevski 6, Froud 4, Greig 3, Millhouse 2 and singles to Cullen, Mullett, Davidson and Ross.
Best Players – Ross, Talevski, Hall, Davidson, Greig, Cullen, Bardon, Morse Rushton and Froud. Both Cassidy and Mullet had good last quarters.

1%- Morse 10, O’Grady 9, McCarthy and Williams 8 and Cullen 7.
Coach’s Comments – The game was right on to. the finish. Our 1% lifted in the last quarter. Our clearances were good in the last half. We got the job done.
RESERVES FINAL SCORE – VERMONT 10-8-68 def EAST RINGWOOD 7-11-53
Not a great standard by both teams who were obviously low on numbers. Luke Davis and Ford kicked our goals in the first term and we led by 4 points at 1/4time. East Ringwood kicked the only 2 goals of the 2nd quarter and led 3-6 to 2-3 at ½ time. Better players for the half were – McLure, Mendes, Griffiths and L.Davis. Griffiths in defence was playing his best football for the season.
When Wignall and Bordin goaled after the break we were right in the game. Bordin had a sensational third quarter - he really had a purple patch. When Ford goaled via Griffiths and Wignall kicked his second for the quarter with a great snap the Eagles found themselves in front at ¾ time 6-6-42 to 5-9-39.
We kicked 4-2 to 2-2 in the last term. Davis goaled after a brilliant snap then he goaled again via Bird. Jarrod Bird played an outstanding last quarter. Ford goaled via Davis and Rosewarne then Luke Davis capped off a super game with a goal at the end. Vermont winners by 15 points.
Goalkickers – Davis 4, Ford 3, Wignall 2 and Bordin 1.
Coach’s Best Players – Griffiths, Mendes, Bird, L.Davis and Ford.
Coach’s Comments – A fantastic win – it could have been a season defining win. With so many injuries it gave players who only get a few chances to play to take up the slack. Our back 6 were terrific.
COLTS FINAL SCORE – VERMONT 22-16-148 def EAST RINGWOOD 6-7-43
The Colts kept East Ringwood scoreless in the first term. Dore goaled via McDonald then Huisan goaled via Siakavelis and McInerney. Our boys were well on top when Dore goaled again this time via Debney then McInerney continued his terrific form with a snap goal. Henderson who was really imposing himself on the game goaled via Huisman just before the siren. It was a good start to the match and at 1/4 time we led 5-5 to Zero.
We added 4-4 to 1-2 in the second term. Early goals came from Siakavelis and Huisman then Debney goaled via Siakavelis. Eventually the Roos scores their first major then Romas goaled before the break. Better players for the half were – McInerney, Dore, Cameron, Henderson, Rogneda, Siakavelis, Debney and Bull. At half time we led 9-9-63 to 1-2-8. Obviously our back half had little to do but well done on keeping them out.
A comprehensive third term kicking 6-1 to 3-1. To their credit the Roos kicked two of the first4 goals of the quarter. In between Rogneda goaled via McInerney then Henderson snapped another. Mc Inerney goaled via Debney then Huisman kicked two of the next three with Rogneda kicking the other. At ¾ time we led 15-10 to 4-3.
We kicked 7-6 to 2-4 in the last quarter. Henderson and McInerney were again outstanding. McKernan goaled via Debney then Henderson goaled via Dore. The busy Huisman goaled then Dore kicked a stylish angle goal. McInerney, Debney and Siakavelis kicked our last 3 of the match. Vermont winners by 105 points with the news coming through that Donvale had beaten Scoresby which means we are now second behind Knox. Better players for the half were – McInerney, Henderson, Huisman, Debney, Close, Dore, Geraghty and Cameron.
Goalkickers – Huisman 5, Dore 3, Henderson 3, McInerney 3 and Rogneda 3, Siakavelis 2, Debney 2 and Romas 1.
Coach’s Best Players – McDonald, McInerney, Siakavelis, Dore, Huisman and a special mention to Debney.
Coach’s Comments – Our run and intensity was first rate. Our depth showed out today and we showed our class. We are the real deal collectively. A great effort and well done.
