Dear members and supporters,
We have been informed by our Maroondah City Council liaison, that their Local Law’s and Parks teams are concerned about the parking within the parkland and nature strips.
The council has contacted the club and asked that we rope off these areas or proactively manage where people park on games days.
While the issue has been exacerbated by the delayed building works and people have been parking in some of these areas for many years on busy game days, the council has now advised that damage is being caused to parkland and trees.
The council has requested/warned that:
- Areas outlined in the bushland (photos attached from last weekend – click to enlarge) area are fenced off to ensure no parking is to occur in these areas. (Note: the club volunteers are not in a position to do this)
- Councils Local Laws will be issuing fines to anyone who doesn’t park in an appropriate car parking area
- If the club doesn’t restrict parking access to the areas outlined there may be repercussions for the club (Note: The club does not know what these repercussions are, but club volunteers are not in a position to restrict parking).
So as mentioned in the bracketed red notes to the bullet points above, as the club isn’t in a position to rope off these large areas or have volunteers proactively monitoring where people are trying to park, WE STRONGLY URGE ANYONE ATTENDING CHEONG OVER THE NEXT TWO HOME GAMES DO NOT PARK ON BUSHLAND OR NATURE STRIPS – or you risk a substantial parking fine.
We recommend that you arrive early so that if you need to park on streets a little further away you don’t miss out on any action.
We apologise for any inconvenience, this is beyond our control, but if you please abide by council’s request this will help the club avoid further problems and save you a potential hit to your pocket.
