A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Just a short update to keep our wonderful South Croydon Football Club community informed.
As we know, here in Melbourne we are still faced with many restrictions limiting movement and gathering - hopefully the recent low numbers are a sign we are again on top of things and that the restrictions can be lifted to allow us to socialise and move about a little more very soon. The restrictions do make life tough for families and our great sponsor businesses. Our thoughts are with you all.
As soon as we are able, we will endeavour to arrange some form of social activities to reconnect with everyone.
The Dog House:-
A massive thanks to all those who joined the Dog House and to those who tuned in each week. It was a good fundraiser for us, but also a good way to stay in touch. Congratulations to the 15 winners.
Cheong Park:-
As you are probably aware, the new lights are in and power is now on. All that remains is for the Council to arrange for them to be correctly aligned. I have been assured this will happen soon and when we know a date, we will share it with you. These have been a long time coming, so it will be great to finally see the switch flicked on!
Plans for the new clubrooms have been signed off by the football and cricket clubs and will go to tender after the coming Council elections. When completed, the new two story facility will be the envy of clubs throughout the league providing a fantastic community facility.
Timing for the build and the impact on football in 2021 is still being worked through. We will have full access to the ground, but the rooms will be demolished at some point in 2021. Temporary change rooms are being investigated to allow us to play all games at Cheong and some use of the John Frost Stadium for social functions. We will share more when we have confirmation of plans.
Football 2021:-
As we know, Snr coaches Luke McCormick and Simon Hammersley have been reappointed, along with Stephen Quon, Declan Burke and Ken Darby. Most of our assistant coaches have also been reappointed which is great. Senior player Jayden Cass has been announced as our new Colts coach and is already taking great strides in connecting with his players.
The draw for 2021 is being worked on by the EFNL. For the senior men, it will include 2 byes with an 11 team competition due to the introduction of Berwick into Premier Division.
Additional changes for the 2021 season include a men's salary cap reduced to $100k (half of the 2020 level) and the U19 comp moving to an U20 comp for one year.
The recruitment and re-signing of players is on in earnest. It is a challenging task to balance competing priorities - the now vs future, local vs import etc. Suffice to say we are focussed on bringing the right people to the club who want to be a part of the wonderful South Croydon Football Club community. Stay tuned to our social pages as we continue to make announcements about future signings.
At this stage, restrictions still prevent preseason training to commence, so the challenge is for players to maintain some base fitness so they can be ready to go when restrictions lift.
Annual General Meeting:-
The AGM will be held at some point in November, probably as an online meeting. We will advise further details in the next couple weeks, so please look out for that. Hopefully with little volunteering in 2020, we can get a full team eager to pitch in for 2021, a season which is likely to have it's own unique challenges with residual restrictions and facility improvements creating their own little inconveniences.
Sponsors:-
Lastly, but certainly not least, thanks to our tremendous sponsors, both those who have been able to continue financially supporting the club this year and to those doing it tough with the restrictions. We thank you for your support and we look forward to supporting you as best we can going forward.
If anyone has any questions or would like to get further involved with the club either on the committee or through sponsorship, please do not hesitate to contact us.
